Photo and quote from Lydia Horbury, Chief Executive of Bus Users UK “Our 2026 Manifesto calls on Government to treat buses as essential national infrastructure, central to tackling inequality, driving economic growth and delivering on our climate ambitions. When bus services are accessible, reliable and properly integrated, they unlock opportunity, strengthen communities and connect people to the things that matter most. This is about putting passengers at the heart of policy and recognising the full value buses and sustainable travel brings to society.”
Our Manifesto for 2026 sets out a clear agenda for government to prioritise and strengthen bus services, supporting economic growth, decarbonisation and social inclusion tinyurl.com/57sx3a89

Government's Better Connected strategy 'moves us closer to a system that works around passengers, not the other way round.'
Photo and quote from Lydia Horbury, CEO of Bus Users UK: “Better Connected is a welcome step toward recognising what passengers have been telling us for years: that buses are not just a commercial product, they are essential public infrastructure. But strategy alone is not enough. The real test will be whether this translates into consistent, reliable services at the local level. That depends on sustained investment, strong partnerships and the capacity of local authorities to deliver.”
The Government's new national transport strategy - Better Connected - is designed to make everyday journeys 'simpler, easier to pay for and more reliable from door to door'. You can read our response in full tinyurl.com/ze5dcxne
We agree @CBTransport - pavement parking is a menace, and a barrier to accessing buses. New powers to tackle the issue will make it easier and safer for everyone to get around 👇
The Government is to invest over £70m in zero emission buses - this will be a real boost for sustainable travel, the economy and for local communities. You can read our response in full tinyurl.com/bdh7rthk
Photo of Lydia Horbury CEO of Bus Users UK and the quote: For the vast majority of people, travelling by bus is a safe and positive experience. However, when anti-social or criminal behaviour occurs, it can have a significant impact on passengers and drivers alike, undermining confidence in public transport. Clear expectations around passenger behaviour, alongside proportionate powers to address serious breaches, can help protect both passengers and staff and ensure buses remain a reliable and trusted mode of transport.”
Scottish Government is to get new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour on buses. You can read our response in full tinyurl.com/bdfrbnx8
We're looking for a Bus Compliance Officer to help improve services across South West Wales. Find out how you could make a genuine difference to public transport tinyurl.com/4ma8e8zs
Photo of Becky Miller Bus Users UK Director for England and the quote: The draft Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2050 and Delivery Plan together recognise buses as essential for meeting equity and social inclusion goals, critical for reducing car dependence, and a priority mode for investment in speed, reliability and integration. These proposals demonstrate a commitment to improving bus services and making bus travel more appealing, affordable, reliable and efficient for the people of Greater Manchester.”
We've submitted our response to the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2050 which aims to 'sustain, grow and transform' the @beenetworkgm.bsky.social tinyurl.com/34z6xzwy
