International Transgender Day of Visibility 2026
Message from Bri Crockford

Good morning, fellow gender renegades,

I see you rolling with the hits. I see you living in the moment. I see you hoping for the best, deserving every precious win. I see you planning for less, hoping it will blunt the impact. I see you keeping the news in the corner of your eye, but not the centre of your attention. I see you sheltering the flame of joy you’ve found from the wind. I see you cherishing the warmth in your life. I see you spreading that feeling to those who see you, too.

If I don’t see you yet, if that isn’t you, then I hope that one day I get the honour to see you.

Today, on this International Transgender Day of Visibility, you deserve to feel seen and supported. It’s fair to say that there have never been so many people that see us, and it doesn’t always feel like a blessing. Yet today I remember with gratitude every trans person who shared with me a piece of their life, before I had enough pieces to see the picture in my own life.

We don’t owe the world our visibility, but we can offer it to each other. It doesn’t need to be an act of bravery to exist in public, and Trans Rights Commission Toronto will continue working to make that our reality.

Sincerely yours,
Bri Crockford

We are aware of their attempts to bring this extremism to Toronto and the rest of Canada, and we take our responsibility to ensure that they’re not successful very seriously.

Of course, the attacks anti-trans extremists have been perpetuating are not limited to just them; they constitute an emboldened global movement attempting to strip trans people’s rights in every manner possible.

2 weeks ago 2 0 1 0

Over the few past months, we have been developing a comprehensive set of policies that take into consideration the unique circumstances they and other trans people who are often left behind face; we’ll share more about this in the coming days.

... and the young people refused healthcare and a supportive home and school environment.

We will always stand up for them every other trans person, and we reject the divisive claims of anti-trans extremists suggesting that giving up their rights is the only way to stop their coordinated attacks.

We recognize that this is a particularly difficult time for many trans individuals. We’d like to acknowledge the athletes who were unfairly stripped of the right to play and compete in the sports they love, the women and nonbinary individuals forcibly confined with male individuals...

We had a very productive town hall attended by dozens of participants today with discussions about anti-trans extremism around the world and how we can prevent it from making its way into Toronto.

We also announced our new campaign to make legal name changes free for trans people!

More to come.

Town hall for trans rights and to fight anti-trans extremism

There’s no better time

The extremist anti-trans movement has been gaining global momentum with multiple recent victories in the United States, the United Kingdom and more.

We need to preempt it to Toronto and make sure it is never allowed to gain power here.

Our counterprotest demonstration earlier today against a hate rally calling for healthcare to be forcibly withheld from trans kids was attended by almost 100 participants.

The hate rally ended without meaningful impact. We built the connections necessary to safeguard trans rights for years to come.

Statement on our September 27, 2025 counterprotest.

Read our statement on our counterprotest today where we talk about where organized hate derives its power from, how we defeat it, and our role as an organization.

It's advisable to bring hearing protection, water, snacks and sunscreen. This is a low-risk demonstration but it is also always good practice to have the number of a lawyer or friend memorized or written on your person when attending demonstrations.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by posture?

We also need every bit of help from our supporters to make sure as many people as possible are aware of the counterprotest. Talking about this in 1:1 conversations or cross-posting the poster to other social media platforms and in group chats are very effective ways of doing so.

We've also been working on getting the word out through Reddit, publicly affixed posters and in-person canvassing at the September 13 white supremacist hate rally counterprotest and the upcoming September 20 Draw the Line day of action.

Counterprotest against hate rally directed at trans kids

Queen's Park
Saturday, September 27, 2025
10:30 till 15:00

What this is about

An organization known for anti-abortion activism has organized a hate rally calling for healthcare to be forcibly withheld from trans kids. High-profile extremists are supporting this rally.

We’ll be there to show trans kids we’re willing to fight for them. We’ll also make it clear to politicians that we won’t tolerate interference by organized hate in our healthcare.
