What a bizarre world we live in, when the Formula One World Champion says "I'm not the boss", twice, when his management team step in during an interview with the great Donald McRae.

The other thing of interest I saw earlier, which won't have been picked up on TV, former head of the civil service Lord Robin Butler was in the Commons gallery to hear the statement.

I'm surprised to see the senior cabinet ministers around Starmer earlier (Reeves, Lammy) have also all gone. Not huge, but not nothing either.

Grenfell fire chief describes ‘granular horror’ and courage at tower disaster Ex-London Fire Brigade commissioner Lord Roe of West Wickham was confronted with ‘absolute failure of the building’ as he backs Grenfell memorial.

A moving moment earlier in the House of Lords hearing former fire brigade chief Andy Roe talk about his experience at the Grenfell Tower disaster. The sort of speech a chamber stops for.

What does your milk preference in tea and coffee say about your politics?
🐄If only cow milk drinkers could vote Reform would have a big lead, especially among those who like semi-skimmed.
🌱Labour on the other hand has commanding leads among almond and oat milk drinkers.

Pub landlady blasts 'tight-fisted' Labour MP for only ordering starter Karen Errington, the chef-owner of the Rat Inn in the hamlet of Anick, near the Northumbrian town of Hexham, didn't name the allegedly parsimonious politician.

Labour MP gets dragged publicly by a pub landlady for having the audacity to go into her pub, order food and spend money. Honestly no wonder decent people don’t want to go into public life. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

Good luck getting from Finchley to Brixton, then to the house, then back on a bus going back in the other direction within an hour! Would be closer to two!

Not if you wanted to get the bus home it wouldn't be! (The rise in cost is outrageous even so - and then there's complaints by Royal Mail about falling amounts of cards/letters, I wonder why...)

The current highest rate, set in April 1996 by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA), is paid to victims of crime in England, Scotland and Wales who have suffered severe life-changing injuries, including brain damage and paralysis. For all the claims that 'you wouldn't know it's Easter', the Easter Sunday service I was at this morning was the busiest I've seen it in years.

Doesn't mean it's a great revival, but it scotches the idea put around this morning that 'people are shy about promoting it'

A very poor England lose 1-0 in their final Wembley friendly before the World Cup. Japan cut them open with ease at times. England were far too risk averse, constantly picked the safe option of turning inside and prefered one touch flicks to running at sides.

VAR: FSA survey finds 75% of Premier League fans against system Fans believe VAR is ruining goal celebrations and has not improved football since its introduction, according to a Football Supporters' Association survey.

And yet, I feel it’s more likely that VAR will spread like a disease down the pyramid and across to the WSL rather than be scrapped:

‘A fire that’s burning again’: Welsh language resurges thanks to adult learners The number of people on Dysgu Cymraeg courses has risen by 61% since 2017, as people in Wales rediscover the ‘poetry’ of the language Elinor Staniforth from Cardiff hated Welsh lessons at her English-medium school – after her GCSEs, she said, she “forgot all about it”. Winning a place at Oxford University, however, made Staniforth reassess her identity and relationship with the language. “I suddenly became very aware of being Welsh,” the 28-year-old said. “There were only two Welsh people in the whole college. People would ask if I spoke Welsh, and I’d have to say no. It’s like a switch turned on while I was at uni. I was thinking that I’d missed out on something.” Continue reading...
