@emilyennis.bsky.social giving a ⚡️ talk on the use of dazzle camo to stealthily embed Research Culture initiatives in everyday University practices… just kidding. It was on how we should be research culture plumbers 🪠and look to build systems that prevent even the worst users from messing things up!

Elsevier’s decision to close ResearchFish is big for the whole community. RF is hugely time‑consuming, but building new systems won’t be easy either. Still, understanding research’s wider societal benefits matters - maybe it's time to rethink how we do it. A sector‑wide opportunity if we take it 👀
We 👏 love👏 to👏 see👏 it!
As a Research Culture team, we've previously funded projects at Leeds that help support menopausal staff at the institution. But this new employment rights bill will help bring accountability to organisations across the UK!
Is this...the most ambitious crossover event in history?
Listen to our very own @emilyennis.bsky.social discuss their experience of disability, research culture, and the Research Culture Uncovered podcast! Also, RCU podcast fans...stay tuned for @elainagmamaril.bsky.social returning the favour soon!
On this final full week before Christmas, and just in time for the end of #DisabilityHistoryMonth, why not read my interview with Armineh and Liz on how ableism presents itself in the HE sector, and how we've collectively and individually navigated it as disabled people.

Happy REF un-pause day to those of you who celebrate! After a wonderful last-minute scheduling change (a last-minute increase to one hour from 30 mins, and a change to proposed timelines -- you might say this was a theme of the announcement), we had the following things confirmed:
Our first publication is here! In collaboration with @wellcometrust.bsky.social, our project is a cross-national, multidisciplinary and qualitative study of work-related suicide in the UK, France and Canada. Read it here link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Break from work posts to mention that I've just completed Stride for Gaza, walking 98km for MAP. Pre-arthritis, I'd have run it. But my sore knees are nothing compared to ongoing suffering and atrocities in Palestine. 🇵🇸You can still donate here: medicalaidforpalestinians.enthuse.com/pf/emily-ennis

I found this an excellent way to end #HiddenREF2025 yesterday. While it's important we get diverse roles and outputs the recognition they deserve - i.e. through the REF - often the REF itself can feel anti-research culture. For me, REF is a competition, but research culture is about community.
