Posted on LinkedIn last night, woke up to several hundred notifications, friends requests, etc. Seems I struck a nerve in the industry by saying I wanted to create my own projects and not be at the sway of execs.
I've said for a while it's going to have to be smaller studios and smaller projects.
A bunch of kids grew up with live service bullshit. They have no frame for understanding that the average game is a finished product, when it launches.
A super easy to use game engine for Nintendo 64 released! ✨ I tried loading in my #gameassets to see if they're compatible but it seems they'll need some manual adjusting, hope that gets fixed in the future.

I'm beyond excited to release 120 (!) retro textures tomorrow. They'll be CC0 (public domain) so they can be used in every sort of project, no restrictions and no need for attribution. No AI was used to create these, all handmade. See you tomorrow! ✨
Screenshot of Windows saying "The disk is write-protected", when I try to copy any file to the usb stick
I got myself a usb stick, from a good brand, and with a good amount of space. To be able to quickly move files between my desktop and laptop in a pinch, without the added time sink of going through cloud or source control. I barely used it, and the drive is already failing!
you published other games as part of your journey to learn game dev? Tough luck, you can never be nominated for this category… unless you start a studio with other people”
You simply can’t go from 0 to making an award nominated game. So, that leaves us with this category being unfair toward solo devs, if Devinad is allowed to withdrawn “
As a team, sure. That may be that specific team’s first commercial project. Or their first commercial project under that legal entity, which is the studio. However, I can 100% guarantee every single developer on that team got several student projects, hobby projects, and/or gamejams under their belt
I don’t think Dani Dev- I mean, “Vedinad” should’ve withdrawn. Nobody, and I mean literally nobody, who got ever nominated for that category, was nominated for their very first game ever.
1) A Raspberry Pi cannot emulate modern consoles.
2) Many people don’t have an old PC laying around.
3) “for way less” I mean, probably, but the Steam Machine doesn’t have a price less. Too early to say that.
I mean, there are many use cases for a cube shaped mini PC, powerful enough to run games. You travel a lot? You can hook it up in your hotel room. Got a large tv in your living room? Hook it up there, for gaming, or media consumption. Got an old CRT TV? Dedicated emulation machine!
The dumbest part is PS1 discs lowered the price of games and the results speak for themselves: Best selling console at the time, outsold N64 almost 3:1 with four times as much N64 software, and outsold the Genesis and SNES combined in both hardware and software.
"games should cost more" is dumb and most of you thinking they should be more expensive are forgetting what N64 cartridges cost to ship and manufacture and simplistic inflation comparisons might be the stupidest shit I've seen all day lol
This again? There are already a crapton of gamers that never buy games on D1. Waiting to grab an eventually bugfixed complete edition on sale for 5 bucks. And general wages haven’t been raising on pair with inflation. You raise the prize to 100 bucks. Sales numbers are gonna plummet.
Doubt it. It’s got a smartphone cpu, and it runs android, not a linux desktop distro like the Deck does.
And dedicating that time working on the movement, meant the level could not get as much polish as I would've liked. Still I had lots of fun making this. Plus I made the jetpack detachable to turn into a floating turret. Worth it! 😁😁😁
As for the level itself, I'm not really fully satisfied with it. I was very passionate about reimagining the movement. But that also meant a level inspired by the Astro Bot ones can't really take fully advantage of the expanded movement.
...where the player character still jumps, punches, does spin attacks, and flies in a jetpack much like Astro. But also has a crouch like 3D Mario. And perform different moves, based on the order in which the jump, crouch, and punch button are pressed.
Big inspiration of course was Astro Bot. I was aiming for one of those late game challenge levels. I also read Astro's movement being criticized for lacking the mechanical depth seen in other 3D platformers such as Mario. So I wanted to do a reimagining of Astro's movement...
Bit late, but for today's #ScreenshotSaturday wanted to show off my entry for the Mega Stack-O-Jam by
@unrealengine.bsky.social. The goal was, make a game level, starting off from the new #StackOBot template.
I'd love to know what you all think: gmilh.itch.io/stack-o-jam-...

Deck and Switch 1 for scale.
Got something in the mail a day earlier than expected today 😊😍😊 (a switch 2, it’s a switch 2)
Merry DELTARUNE TOMORROW to all those who celebrate ❤️🔪
