Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

A new era of sport science in which women are not viewed through the prism of “little men” is gradually emerging, writes @meganferinga.bsky.social.

Something to remember is that it took more than a year for Ronan Farrow to write the Harvey Weinstein story, and it’s not because he was lazy.

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!

Frank Rich, 2007, on the White House correspondents' dinner:

"Washington wisdom had it that Stephen Colbert bombed because he was rude to the president.

"His real sin was to be rude to the capital press corps, whom he caricatured as stenographers."

Can mass surveillance and civil liberties co-exist? As more cameras creep up across Connecticut, we take a look at surveillance technology and examine what we know, and don't know, about how the data is used.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

Somebody has to ACTUALLY DO THIS WORK! You can’t pursue justice by going “Your honor: I mean, duh.”
