Todayâs walk with a phone through early springtime countryside in Germany, surrounded by the calls of woodpeckers and nuthatches. Itâs been one of the most wearying winters I can remember. And how we all need this renewal.
Last weekend, I went to the MusĂŠe de la Photographie in Charleroi. What a treat! Took in the temporary exhibitions by Gregory Crewsden and Cyril Albrecht before being humbled by some of the worldâs most famous imagesâŚ
Thatâs where I am at the moment. Thanks for your thoughts đ
When you think the costs are at their most prohibitive, they go up even more! I may eventually go to medium format digital.
Some images from 2018 when I was getting to know my new (old) Hasselblad. I was already a fan of square format. It was becoming an expensive indulgence then, more so now. Unsurprisingly, I use digital for commissions and am very happy with that.
Looking forward to visiting Berlin in a week and a halfâs time. Weâll see if I can add to these images from 2017!
Why photography matters.
I think it must have been within the last week and a bit? What's really sad is that the interior will also disappear in time. There were some lovely duck egg blue tiles on the walls and 1960's signs. (Sorry for the late reply - got no notification).
Documenting #Caergybi #Holyhead can be bittersweetâŚ
Seeing former Irene Edwards fishmongerâs repainted as part of a high street improvement feels like losing an important part of the townâs history.
Wylfa nuclear power station. Currently in the process of decommissioning, finalising as late as 2101. It is situated on the wild, north coast of Ynys MĂ´n (Anglesey).

What a pleasure to make a portrait of Jac today. Heâs a Welsh photographer and art director. Clearly bursting with creativity, check out his website!

Coming soon! A collaborative exhibition by Ethan Beswick, Rolf Kraehenbuehl and myself as part of @orielcolwyn.bsky.social âs Northern Eye International Photography Festival: What We Donât See - Unless We Look. Displayed in Colwyn Bay Library from next weekend onwards.
There's a month left to see the amazing #onthehedge exhibition at the Royal Horticultural Society's headquarters in Wisley. It's all organised by the Gareth Gardner Gallery, to whom I'm very grateful for including this image in the digital display (link below 08:45s) vimeo.com/1114280127?f...
Thank you, Alfie. And thanks for taking a look at my timeline!

Spotted on todayâs bike ride.
Canât resist a good bus stop! Spotted this afternoon in Germany đ
A nice old Daimler, of all things, spotted on a street in Holyhead/Caergybi recently.
Whatâs all this Holyhead stuff about? What am I about? Itâs all here: bio.site/robertlaw
Had some great fun making an impromptu portrait of Gethin - barista and lead singer of the band, FlorĂŠs. A former police officer, Gethin enjoys engaging and lifting up his Caergybi/Holyhead community through coffee and music! open.spotify.com/track/3bY5sH...
I think youâre starting to find your voice again with your personal work, Mark?
Ah - thatâs a lovely connection.
Thatâs like a Constable landscape đ
For his presentation, he spoke mainly about his NY work, but his timeline also touched on his return to the UK and receiving commissions from you at Tatler.
We also had a good personal chat about his practice afterwards and I talked about my visit to Oxford Brookes, which closed the loop nicely.
Another memorable afternoon at @orielcolwyn.bsky.social
An exhibition opening and talk by Dafydd Jones, focussing on his New York photography in and around the 1990âs.
(Also with a shout out to @unofphoto.bsky.social for some of Dafyddâs wider commissioned work).
