Reminds me of being at a party last month and saying that I had been in London and a very well dressed man said oh it sounds scary there, and I’m like dude, I was in Bloomsbury

If anyone is going to get murdered by this squirrel in the jungles of Borneo, it's gonna be the person walking around with pockets full of their favorite seeds. Even non-psychopathic squirrels would shiv you for peanuts.

⤴️the Aboriginal poet whose books Bila, a river - 5,000 copies - are being destroyed in an act of monumental cultural vandalism by university publisher UQP.

I can not get past an actual university publishing house, one where so many Blak writers are loved and respected by countless readers and a dedicated literary community, is pulping 5000 books, childrens books, a river story, by an Aboriginal poet. My throat constricts when thinking about this.

Anything that isn’t depressing. I’ve been rewatching Midnight Diner for the umpteenth time, which is not a bad thing

I am running out of streaming shows that take my mind off the shitshow this effing world is. Any suggestions for obscure delightful shows that haven’t been written up?

Many others will follow Evelyn A out of UQP. Randa A-F already has. Another Gaza-related cultural tragedy for Australia

there's a really good phrase for what Wyndham created in Triffids - a "compound disaster". One set of problems leads to an unintended effect, precipitating further disasters down the line, and science and cold war politics being what they were...

Unbelievable that they have bowed to this pressure, although there is a precedent with MUP publishing Cardinal which proved fatal for their staff

There's a reason why Meta's employee keylogging plans are only being deployed in the US -- per experts we spoke to, this sort of monitoring would be illegal in much of Europe, where such monitoring is a violation of worker privacy.

In the US, most states don't even require notice of surveillance.

Her most recent book, _The Rot,_ won the Victorian Premier's Literary Award this year and is short-listed for The Stella Prize. After Lamestream broke the news that the University of Queensland Press had cancelled the publication of a children’s book, _Bila, a river cycle_ , written by Jazz Money and illustrated by Matt Chun, citing the University's controversial new anti-Semitism policy, Araluen announced she was leaving the publisher. Shameful. And doesn't bode well for the new Meanjin, let's be honest.

UQ pulping an Aboriginal writer's book is the new Adelaide Writers Week is the new Bendigo literature festival. Corporations/governments caving into lobbyists' racist harrassment always backfires. Hold on to your hats - UQP authors & poets won't be staying quiet

Group says site of new greyhound track should be for housing The council and a community group fought against it, but Orange is set to get a new greyhound racing track after the project was approved by the Western Regional Planning Panel.

File under get fucked. Council opposed, residents don't want it. And yet a panel (because it's worth more than $5m) gets to rubber stamp it. Fucked.

Right? They also keep adding unnecessary AI features that no one wants, which even if you don’t want them run in the background (esp if you work for a company that is intent on not allowing you to disable it)

Something lacking from this coverage is that "usage" probably isn't even - there are probably a very small fraction of users consuming the vast majority of energy, mostly through agents, coding and video production

This isn't "rapid adoption", it's rapid digital bloating and inefficiency.

Australia news live: about 160,000 people to be cut from NDIS as Mark Butler says scheme ‘costs too much and growing too fast’ Follow live

I love that they say things like 'people will be moved to services outside NDIS' as though there are actually services there for those people to access.
