"Multi-modal agentic self-supervised latent-space singularity." I have been a professional software engineer for over 30 years, so it takes a lot of empty babble to impress me, but damn...I'm saving that one for later use.

A classic story, and one that nearly all of us have lived through. I am proud to have mentored several great engineers into great engineering managers. The fewer frat bros of the CEO out there, the better.

Just heard a minister say, as perhaps only Black ministers can,
“We will fight until hell freezes over, and then we will fight on the ice.
This right here!

Alysa Liu’s Olympic run came with terms. Her choreographer helps her express them Liu is the best U.S. hope for an Olympic medal in women's figure skating, which would be the country's first in the competition since 2006.

“When Liu, 20, decided to return to skating, she did so with conditions. She’d wear what she wants. Dance to the music she wants. Eat what she wants. Take breaks when she wants…. [Skating] would be the vehicle through which she displayed the real Alysa.”

"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." –Justice Louis Brandeis

Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.

We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.

"The Irritating Gentleman" by Berthold Wotlze. A young woman dressed in dark clothes, sitting on a train with a bag beside her, looking fed up as an older man leans over the back of the seat behind her, trying to talk to her.

FBI opened probe on Minneapolis shooting; none exists now, Justice Dept. says After the death of Renée Good in Minneapolis, FBI agents launched a civil rights probe into the shooting. The Justice Department says no such case now exists.

An FBI agent conducted an initial review of the Renee Good killing and determined sufficient grounds existed to open a civil rights probe into the actions of the ICE officer who shot her. Justice Department says no inquiry is warranted. @perrystein.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

If you are engaged in a lengthy and frustrating job search, I have built and released a new in-browser tool for keeping track of applications and data related to them. You might find it useful.

The app is at jobsearchlog.com
It's free, simple and your data stays in your browser.

I remember reading the Grey Goo thought experiment about runaway nanotech and finding it plausible -- we do live in the Age of Unintended Consequences, after all -- but it looks like Slop is going to get us first.

Parts of Knives Out were filmed in my town. We have a lovely, three-screen theatre, so the whole town turned up to see it there. During one of the car travel scenes, you could see the theatre's neon lights reflected in the car's window. The loud ruckus that followed was great, if a bit shameful.

What do these corporations have in common?

Netflix
Ford
Tesla
T-Mobile
Duke Energy
DISH Network
Metlife
Dominion Energy
United States Steel

In recent years, they all paid their execs more than they paid in taxes.

This is what a corporate-rigged system looks like.

Nationalize Tesla?! Hmm...would there even be anything there without Elmo's constant lying and bloviating? Actually...if we forgot all about the cars and just turned it into an energy-storage company?
