Today this little joy spot of a book is on shelves! Curated by ahoffmanwriter, you’ll get to meet the puppies of some
very talented authors. And you’ll meet my Alvin, who was such a terrible dog that he circled back to being the best dog ever.

With the three latest titles – bestsellers Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, Nineteen Minutes by @jodipicoult.bsky.social and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – Utah has banned 22 books from all public schools. pen.org/utah-no-read...

It’s Thanksgiving. Perhaps you can make someone else give thanks? See below a fundraiser for Dawn Ruprecht, who has incurred legal fees after being targeted by a book banning extremist out to get librarians. Please help.

It's come to my attention that some people have received AI-generated emails about collaborating with me and/or my agent. I have not and would never send out those emails. If you get one...it's NOT ME!

The same way a single parent who hasn't read a book can get it banned.

Breaking news: censorship isn't just for banned books anymore. My musical Between the Lines was cancelled due to the comments of a single parent.

I read an early draft of By Any Other Name while at the beach with my family. I remember the moment I first encountered Shakespeare in the text. I was not happy: “This [man] was slighter, with a receding hairline and a weak chin badly camouflaged by a dark beard” (144). Emilia immediately remembers reading one of his very bad plays as Hunsdon’s companion. At the bar, Shakespeare claims, “I, too, will write for the stage” and Emilia thinks “Badly” (144). When reading this exchange, I thought: “Jodi, you don’t have to be so mean about it.” Quickly, though, I realized that this is exactly the sentiment built by Shakespeareans Picoult wanted to poke at—the belief that Shakespeare is a god beyond reproach.
