Thank you for this thread. Those are powerful and insightful words by Belafonte.
It helps make the case that “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice” … and for generations the NYT leadership preserves the status quo and undermines those doing the bending.
In Belgium, employees receive compensation for every kilometre they ride, with some cyclists earning up to €810 per year.
And why not? Biking saves public money for everyone.
“All employees in Belgium who cycle to work are entitled to a bicycle allowance of €0.28 per kilometre of their commute.”
Should we rather spend those resources on war and destruction?
Staff at the nation’s largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility have placed bets on which detainee will be the next to die by suicide, according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on 911 calls and detainee accounts.
This should be self-evident, quod non :(
A child dying of cancer spent her final days fighting to free her wrongfully detained father from ICE custody.
This comes just weeks after a mother from Maryland was denied the right to be at her son’s side as he died from cancer.
Not one dime for this cruelty.

Verge headline: ICE is pushing Minneapolis underground by Gaby Del Valle Photos by Jack Califano Photo depicts a white brick wall plastered with two recurring posters: One that says Alex Pretty ICU Nurse - Murdered by ICE, shows his photo with red highlights. Another is similar but reads Renee Nicole Good American Mom - Murdered by ICE
ICE may have lost the battle for public opinion, and its operation may be hampered by local pushback, but it has succeeded in one respect: It has instilled terror in Minnesota’s immigrant communities, forcing them into the shadows.

Concentration camps:
“For 280 days we haven’t eaten a single piece of fruit, banana, apple, orange, or anything fresh. We are all in one big room with no doors or windows. We can’t see any grass or trees. We are all constantly sick."
“US elites – those running major businesses, universities, law firms, media companies and other mainstream institutions, often hailing from the nation’s most exclusive academic institutions – have continued on their course of compliance and complacency.”

It comes as the Palestinian Red Crescent says the evacuation of patients and wounded Palestinians via the southern Rafah crossing has been canceled for today. Israel has been tightly controlling the Rafah crossing since it partially reopened on Monday, after two years of total closure.
Federal agents in camouflage and vests surround a vehicle. A headline reads: "Trump's Migrant Detention Pipeline Extends From Minnesota to El Paso" Photo by David Guttenfelder/The New York Times
As President Trump’s immigration crackdown continues in Minnesota, many immigrants who are detained in the Twin Cities are ending up in a desolate detention camp in the desert of West Texas, only to be released later in El Paso with no money and no obvious way to get home. trib.al/jyi6Rca
Because of course 🤮🤮
Normal people are out there doing extraordinary things. My mom's health aide emailed me: ICE took 2 of her neighbors; when she told them they weren't welcome, she was met w/a rifle. Now she's driving a neighbor to work hidden in the back of her car & escorting the neighbor's kids to the bus stop.

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.
We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.
Very happy with this lovely collaboration and its outcome @christopherali.bsky.social @jonkropko.bsky.social

If the Supreme Court weakens Voting Rights Act protections against racial discrimination in redistricting, it could usher in the largest-ever drop in representation by Black members of Congress.

Israel says it will suspend more than two dozen humanitarian organisations, including Doctors Without Borders, for failing to meet its new rules for aid groups working in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.
In today’s depraved beyond belief news, Israel is banning MSF (Doctors Without Borders) from Gaza.
