⚠️ Long Haulers with eye symptoms reported greater financial difficulties, housing instability, & higher rates of new-onset dysautonomia, GI Issues, ME/CFS, & migraines. Key differentiating #LongCOVID symptoms include dizziness, cold intolerance, pressure at the base of the head, tinnitus, tremors.
In the survey of a #LongCOVID cohort (conducted May 2022 – Oct 2023), 57% of participants self-reported new-onset ocular symptoms, including blurred vision, dry eyes, or floaters/flashes of light. doi.org/10.2147/OPTH...
👁️✨A @YaleMed study reveals that #LongCOVID eye symptoms are associated with a more severe phenotype. Patients often experience greater health declines and face significant socioeconomic challenges.

Lead author Dr. Manjot K. Gill noted that the findings bridge the gaps between ophthalmology, neurology, and COVID-19, helping us see how inflammation affects organs like the brain, potentially contributing to memory loss, brain fog... and fatigue. news.nm.org/new-research...

👁️✨@NorthwesternMed retinal imaging study of non-hospitalized LC patients shows a decrease in blood flow in the smallest vessels of the deeper retinal layers— may indicate reduced blood circulation in the brain, potentially leading to neurologic symptoms.

“Something like 50% of COVlD cases are asymptomatic now, so it's impossible to know who’s contagious. Masking is just plain common sense.”—Erin Ahrens @erin7696.bsky.social is devastated by #LongCOVID eyes, in addition to a serious C19-exacerbated chronic condition.

I had dysautonomia before COVID.
So, COVID made it worse?
"Doctors call it Ondine’s curse—a catastrophic failure of the brain stem in which breathing no longer happens automatically, especially during sleep."
Hmmm might explain why when I was always masking but literally no one would and I initially got infected, how I dealt with insomnia and hypnogogic hallucinations and would wake up gasping for breath like I just ran track.

COVID can damage the brain stem & leads to "Ondine’s Curse" signs: failures in automatic breathing, dysautonomia, cognitive decline, even death. The brain doesn’t always bounce back. Protect your health. 😷 Jason Gale's report: www.asrn.org/journal-adva...
