Poplar Forest (Thomas Jefferson's country house) and Appomattox County Courthouse were basically in my hometown. If we were lucky we'd get to go to Colonial Williamsburg or DC...

IGiveARod 2026

As week 2 of the Iditarod rolls on, so does the #Igivearod. We are about 30 hours from the winner in Nome, but the giving continues until the red lantern arrives. So far, we have raised almost $10,000!! Plenty of good schools and charities can still use help though! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

One of my favorite little corners of the Internet, getting ready to do the damn thing once again.

Never gonna have a news segment about how "no one suspected he'd ever do such a thing" kind of dude

Primer is one of those mindfucks of a movie that almost no one has heard of. So taking this opportunity to shout from the rooftops about Primer, as is required anytime I see it mentioned. That is all.

As someone who changed majors from CS to IT (and dealt with all the "ohh IT, I Tried" bullshit), I am basically never surprised when these software dudes have zero fucking concept of how anything works with hardware.

Oh please, PLEASE get the dollhouse! You can't pour from an empty cup, you deserve something for YOU even if it seems absolutely frivolous!!

Missed my first pottery class in a year and a half because yesterday was also Botox day. Instead, I went to bed at 6pm, woke up and took my bedtime meds in the middle of the night, and went back to bed until my alarm went off this morning. I guess I needed the sleep pretty badly...

When they get to The Giver and anything Gary Paulsen I am going to die of excitement!

I have spent many hours of my life pondering the Cars universe. And the worst part might just be that my kids don't even remember subjecting me to this existential torture!!

My 2nd graders are finally reading books that *I* can get excited about. Charlotte's Web has been a big hit, both at school and at home! I'm so looking forward to revisiting all my favorite chapter books from when I was a kid with them!!

Oh man! I'm deeply torn between the beets one and the sweet option. Would have a full one of each, just to be sure!!

@oldenoughtosay.com does some downright absurd shit with garlic and one of these days, I'm going to cook one of those non-recipes, much to the dismay of my family

My therapist mentioned that at some point my boys would outgrow licking their classmates at one point and I just cackled and replied "temporarily...."

Iggy is like "what part of this is Mama not understanding?!?" Which is like, one of the top 5 small children moods IMO

We all get to have a slightly petty side, as a treat!

Anyone who does this should be put on some sort of fucking watchlist

Fucking. Constantly. I'll consider giving them a lock in another 5+ years at this rate!!

I've worked since I was 14 years old. This is the first time since then that no one is going to go hungry or without healthcare or shelter if I'm not bringing in a paycheck!!! And TBH it's wild how much of a mental adjustment it's been figuring out our (my) new Normal when I'm not just surviving...

Light fixtures are one I desperately need to start doing! Plumbing fixtures haven't been too bad either, in my experience! Just need to make a list and start crossing things off, bit by bit. This week also included replacing the kids' doorknob with one that Doesn't Fucking Lock for Reasons lmfao

I think because I didn't plan this, I know there's a lot of stigma around SAHMs, and I also recognize the immense privilege I have in being able to do this, I've not said anything. But weeks like this week, when my kids are off school all week, I am so grateful (if also so so tired lol)

I've been uncharacteristically hesitant to talk about it, but I quit my job a few months back and have been a SAHM since then. By far my favorite things are having time off to spend with my kids, and being able to just DO STUFF that needs to be done at home. What a goddamn revelation!

The front doorbell had dry rotted and died years ago, and TBH I didn't mind not having a doorbell that worked in like 2021! But having had the back door replaced and new hardware for the front door, it seemed silly. And the new one the guys installed out back was cheap and ugly lol. 10 min fix, max

I've replaced both my front and back doorbells today while hanging out with my monsters. As sometimes happens with home improvement stuff, my shock at how simple this was is outmatched by my irritation that it took me so long to get around to it!!

Also petition for this clip to be referenced in his obituary, because some things just don't die.

I stuck a few command strips to the back of mine, and it's holding up like a champ!

Right, it's basically an object lesson in "do you want eugenics? because that's how you get eugenics!" Unfortunately, a lot of folks see the existence of disabled people as medical or societal failure rather than success.

The only other exception I can think of, which sort of proves the rule, is something like The Giver, which excludes disability (and anything else that makes people not all the same) but in a way that says A Lot.

Lmao, I got my first cell phone 23 years ago for my birthday with the big ole asterisk of "oh you're gonna pay the bill, btw."
