The final vote: 51-45, with 4 people absent.

Glad you like it! The tech limits are based roughly around N64/PSX specs, with some exceptions. But without the PSX’s characteristic rendering artifacts, it does resemble PSP, especially in widescreen!

Conservatives sieg heil-ing for the camera is about them playing a game of chicken with the media.
Every time an outlet calls it a “Roman salute” or a “provocative hand gesture” the conservative proves who holds the power.
If you are a media enthusiast of a certain vintage and you encounter the phrase "do it now" there is a high likelihood this beat will rocket into your head.

Couldn't be clearer that Democrats aren't a party in the way that Republicans are a party. The GOP has an ideological project. They build power to accomplish specific things. The project of the Democratic Party is getting Democrats reelected. 80-90+% of Congress is, so it doesn't take much effort.
i am 100% of the belief that simply forcing take-writers to answer the question "who specifically said this and why are they significant" would result in substantially fewer bad takes circulating in the world

reply to Rep. Steve Cohen: "Our congresspeople like @repcohen.bsky.social are too busy live posting about the #SNL50 to give a crap about what is happening to America." Cohen's response: "Oh, I'm so sorry. I took a few hours of to watch a show that commemorates 50 years of the best show on television that was a part of my growing up and is a phenomenal show. may i please have your forgiveness. When it's over and before I go to bed, I will think of three more ways to work against 47"
this is one of the funniest things a national politician has ever posted. he live-tweets a tv show during an ongoing constitutional crisis and when someone tells him they find this irritating he’s like “hey listen, this show meant a lot to me when i was a 30-year-old boy”
The cost-saving claims don’t hold up. Every dollar in NIH research grants generates $2.46 in economic activity, research shows—a total of $93 billion in 2023 alone.
“It’s incredible to me that we would give up this thing that has such obvious societal benefits,” says biologist Mark Peifer.
p1: Summer is reading a prompt on her desktop tablet, smiling as she holds her stylus up to the screen. The prompt reads: “Design Request - Anime Inspired Shirt (Badass). Requestor - Smuck Buckles <sbvapez@email.nice> Description: ya so there’s this tv show heavenly witch cyberblade about a cool lady with a sword, i need 50 shirts with her looking cool, pose doesn’t matter as long as its cool and the back says Buck’s Vape Shop & Pizzeria.” Summer: Oh hey, I know that sword lady! p2: Summer cheerily starts a texting conversation with Autumn. S, via text: i just got a request for a shirt with your dorky anime crush on it. got a good reference image i could use? the guy just wants her to “look cool.” Reply text box: Autumn is typing… p3: Summer blushes and recoils from the phone as she is flooded with notifications that read “Autumn sent an image,” with the images themselves remaining unseen. p4: Summer hunches down, still blushing and looking around embarrassedly, and types her response. S: ok so i’ll admit that is an impressive collection but keeping in mind that i need this FOR WORK -- do you have any that are slightly less pornographic

What we’re seeing is not the pendulum swinging back toward the right after the left went too far. We’re seeing a moral panic, a society-wide assault on a phantom leftist who wants to ban Dr. Seuss and arrest you for using the wrong pronouns and put kitty litter boxes in classrooms.

can't say i think they'll fail at rehabilitating him in the eyes of the public. the media has a penchant for projecting a sense of professional decorum around these monsters that is totally undeserved
i'm not endorsing _their_ proposed measurement per se- we do already have better tools, but it feels like things are optimized to reduce unemployment to the neglect or detrement of other indicators of economic hardship and democratic messaging seems reluctant to use much beyond gdp and unemployment
that's a fair point in a research context. but in a political messaging context, unemployment doesn't seem to be as useful a data point for either setting goals nor communicating accomplisments with the electorate as it once was. maybe it never was as useful a tool as dems thought ->
only dems get punished for failing to "fix" the economy because they aren't as good at communication with the party rank-and-file about econ. they can't shake the image that the primary concern is keeping big donors happy. personally, after 20+ years voting dem, i'm starting to belive that it's true
ah, looking at this again, I'm pretty sure i misunderstood what you were saying. i over-centered myself and assumed you were refering to leftists and more centrist dems as the two sides. it's so obvious now that look at it again. my bad ->
because they have a lot more political power and agency? i can only speak for myself, but to me it's more about acknowledging that the problem has never been taken seriously enough by the democratic party imo
i'm not trying to start a fight, you're coming off really agro
