It's hard to tell the difference between Kash Patel defending himself and Kash Patel inadvertently confirming the allegations.

If Mississippi flips and Texas doesn’t I won’t lie it would be incredibly funny. Tate reeves only won the governors mansion by 3 points in 2023…

A particularly evil week for ICE flights in Africa. Since Tuesday, ICE has deported people to Algeria, Ethiopia and Kenya, plus two possible third-country removal trips to Ghana, and one confirmed third-country removal trip of 15 Latin American nationals to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

I am fairly confident the oil markets were manipulated today again. Drive prices low then buy…. Iran stating that Straits remain closed.

You absolutely SHOULD NOT go around telling people that data centers are full of gold, silver, palladium, copper, and that the data centers are almost entirely unstaffed.

The fact that people in New York have just been putting bags of trash on the curb is absolutely wild to me as a Chicagoan.

"It is not enough that the conditions of labour are concentrated at one pole of society in the shape of capital, while at the other pole are grouped masses of men who have nothing to sell but their labour-power. Nor is it enough that they are compelled to sell themselves voluntarily. The advance of capitalist production develops a working class which by education, tradition, and habit looks upon the requirements of that mode of production as self-evident natural laws. The organizations of the capitalist process of production, once it is fully developed, breaks down all resistance. The constant generation of a relative surplus population keeps the law of supply and demand of labour, and therefore wages, within narrow limits which correspond to capital's valorization requirements. The silent compulsion of economic relations sets the seal on the domination of the capitalist over the worker."

Impulse/urge vs. considered policy has long been one characteristic of U.S. foreign policy (see Bush/Cheney); it's made worse by public/media responsiveness to impulse. MAGA/Stephen Miller's domestic politics are, in contrast, more ideologically coherent and long-term.

So many of us are now textual Case Pollards, physically averse to pre-digested, mass extruded machine verbiage just as William Gibson's Pattern Recognition protagonist was made physically sick by fashion and brands.

We do not have to live like this in NYC. We expect that @mayor.nyc.gov will deliver on his campaign promises re: NYC public libraries. We know that he understands the importance of this.

NYT does this habitually. Back in 2016? 2020? they interviewed a "rural PA undecided voter" who turned out to be the GOP County Chair, who NYT had interviewed twice previously. Many such cases.

Alice Augusta Ball found the cure for leprosy at 23.

She died in a mysterious lab accident at 24.

Arthur Dean stole her research, stole it and renamed it from "The Ball Method" to "The Dean Method."

It took 90 years before her original research papers were found and she got the credit due to her.

I think this overstates science's capacity to self-correct. Eugenics didn't fall out of favor because science proved its theories were false. What really did it in was the Nazi death camps and the Nuremberg trials. It primarily became unacceptable thanks to politics more than anything else.

This is absolutely the intent--faculty need to be united in rejecting this kind of automation (more accurately: abdication), no matter how "safe" you think your position might be now.

Delta Air Lines Shipped Liam Ramos To ICE Detention Center, Video Shows A Minneapolis activist obtained January airport footage showing the 5-year-old boarding a Delta flight with apparently plainclothes federal agents.

Terrific reporting on the Delta video (and normal, appropriate crediting) from @jbendery.bsky.social here.

Interestingly, she says she asked Delta in February about it and they didn’t respond. It really was @ottergoose.net getting the video that made the difference. www.huffpost.com/entry/delta-...

An important first step based upon recent intellectual leg-work that has established not only Harriet Taylor Mill's inspiration for On Liberty, but also her actual authorship of parts of the text. 1/2
