In other words, we don’t need more process, we need more action.
Don’t delay. Let’s make our streets safer before more people are needlessly seriously injured or killed.

"They were so lucky I was looking"
Ummm no. Stopping in time for a child running onto the street is not heroic/lucky, it is your goddamn obligation as a driver. Cost of entry. Kids are allowed to be unpredictable, you are not.

... is passing this into law and making our streets safer for everyone!
Presumed liability right-sizes legal accountability with the power of operating a two-ton vehicle, said Bob Anderton, founding attorney of Washington Bike Law based in Seattle, who has championed the proposal in the Pacific Northwest for nearly two decades.
What will be more impressive than time...
For real:
“This is not Big Brother coming to take away your car, this is society deciding that cars shouldn’t be seriously injuring and killing people. It’s a way to fairly reduce that,” said Anderton. “It’s just a matter of convincing lawmakers that they can do this and they should do this.”
Presumed civil liability for drivers involved in crashes with people walking or biking is getting some press in NY, but WA is likely to lead the way thanks to Representative Julia Reed.
It's too late to comment on this proposed rule, but you can see it here: nwww.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/03/05/202...
Meanwhile, the Trump Administration's DOJ is proposing to thwart the disciplinary authority of bar associations for its attorneys accused of violating ethics rules.
The Rule of Law needs to apply to all lawyers, even Trump's lawyers.

Isn’t the problem the conflicting lights?
Drivers who have a green light rarely think to stop for someone riding or even walking in a crosswalk.
That’s why LPIs are not a panacea, just an improvement over an immediate conflict.
Let’s not have conflicting signals.
This is worse than requiring special "historic-effect" bike racks in Pioneer Square.
Let's look forward and design safer streets instead of looking backwards and solidifying the loss of public street space to private car parking.
It seems reasonably foreseeable that a bicycle might be on a bike path and could block the view of a rider approaching the bollard.
Especially after watching your video! Ouch.
This is not legal advice
it’s complicated
Yes- Evidence of negligence
You’ve got the burden to prove negligence.
Also that this negligence was a proximate cause of damages.
Plus there may be recreational use immunity & other weird defenses.
Hopefully you are ok
& it’s marked better now!
Is there a proposal for a broad shared street definition or will it require street by street identification?

Seattle Neighborhood Greenways (SNG), a democratically-governed nonprofit, has helped improve public space for 15 years, notwithstanding its confusing "greenways" name.
As a major SNG supporter, Washington Bike Law is excited to be part of SNG's next chapter as @streetsalliance.bsky.social!
The Presumed Liability bill for drivers involved in crashes with people walking or bicycling will not become law in Washington this year.
HB 2095 may be dead but its Prime Sponsor, @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social, is very much alive & is already planning how to pass this law next session.
Thanks!
