Practices Regarding "Artificial Intelligence" - Reactor

I missed @reactorsff.bsky.social posting this update to their policies re: use of "AI," but I am happy they did, and not surprised by their position. It's a good position!

Important update, we have finished responding to all emails in our inbox today! That means we had the pleasure of sending final acceptances, as well as the less pleasing duty of sending final passing emails.

If you sent over a piece for our new issue and haven't heard back, please let us know!

Image is a puzzle. Text says All My Relations, Volume 11, Interdependency. Submissions Open. We define "interdependency" as an intentional way of moving through the world recognizing that we are all connected and reliant on each other and the world we share. You have exactly something like 42 days to enter. That feels like a portentous number, so we hope it's correct. It probably isn't. Deadline May 10th. You tell us. The SmokeLong Quarterly Award for Flash Fiction in its sixth year. Nearly $5k in the prize pot.

A meme with a car salesman and a thoughtful customer standing in front of a car. The car has the small wonders keyhole logo on it, and the salesman is gesturing at it. The text reads "< slaps roof of magazine >" on the top and "You can fit so much flash fiction and poetry in this baby" on the bottom.

Ok, so if the car is the magazine are the tires subscriptions? No wait, we're not driving on our subscribers are we?! Maybe we need to rethink this meme. While we do that, go grab a subscription. We promise it's great and keeps the magazine rolling along!

One More Reason the Aliens Might Be Avoiding Us - Reactor Is the current location of our Solar System the reason no one's coming to visit?

There's no evidence that aliens exist, but if they're out there, why haven't they come to visit?! @jdnicoll.bsky.social suggests that our Solar System's location might well be worth avoiding (due to our minor supernova problem...)

Despite having millions of speakers, there are few books written in the language ‘sango’
My mother tongue, ‘Sango’, is the 2nd official language of The Central African Republic after French.
65 years into independence, the education system is still entirely in French.
Goal - create an anthology of folktales or, ‘Tere’s’ in the language Sango.
To not only create a book that people can finally read in their native language, but also preserve our stories… not the ones forced on us by others.
How?
Collect - I’ll be interviewing elders who have kept memories of my culture’s oral tradition.
Transcribe - I’ll transcribe all the stories in Sango.
Create - I’ll write the book itself and have it printed.
Disperse - I’ll travel back to the central African republic and disperse copies

Myth, monsters and making sense of a disenchanted world: why everyone is reading fantasy I have made the leap from literary fiction to fantasy – for those who think it’s mere wish-fulfilment, here’s why we need that thing with the dragons

A wonderful piece on the importance and the pleasures of the fantasy genre.

I know you’re aware of May of the talented artists here on Bsky, but I’ve made a habit of collecting my favorites with the hopes I can one day hire them for cover/character art.

Anyway you should check some of these folks out! Some really spectacular work and no AI~

‘Rage knitting’ against the machine: the hobbyists putting anti-ICE messages into crafts Makers take a stand through ‘Melt the ICE’ red knit caps and sparkly nails – all while raising funds for those affected by immigration raids

Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance.

They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along.

They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

It appears as though SFWA has had a very quick change of heart and is now back on the right side of this. Shouldn't have happened in the first place. New Nebula Awards eligibility rules for generated text are now:
