During a lab at the @centralesupelec.bsky.social engineering school, Jaspair - our CO2 monitor - checks that the indoor air renewal remains good. The belly is green, the CO2 level is < 600 ppm, and the air-score is A. Everything is in order, and the students can work comfortably and safely.

Great tool, many thanks Sean. Comparing, in relative terms, is also very telling: we vary a single parameter and we see the progression of the risk. Example: Risk(at 3000ppm) = 40 x Risk(at 800ppm).

I built AIRE, a free browser tool that estimates airborne COVID risk indoors using the PMC framework.

It also offers an optional “cigarette pack equivalent.”

Why?
Because 3% per event is abstract.

Cumulative harm is easier to grasp on a familiar scale. 🧵

You're right. it is written: "if the level is between 800 and 1500ppm, your ventilation is adequate. You should consider opening windows or doors to improve it more.".

We can always do better, but in most classrooms, reaching this level would already be fantastic.

Ventilation and air quality in education and childcare settings How schools and other education and childcare providers should monitor and manage ventilation and air quality.

Ventilation and air quality in education and childcare settings, a new guidance from 🇬🇧 department of education. UK adopts the global standard for schools: CO2 level must be < 800ppm. The challenge is to make this possible everywhere. H/T @safeairschoolsuk.bsky.social

Of the 11 mandatory vaccines in France, 8 protect against diseases transmitted through the air we breathe. Airborne transmission is the main route of transmission of childhood diseases and needs to be better understood and taken into account by the various stakeholders involved.

Infographic titled “Examples of diseases from pathogens that can be transmitted through the air we breathe.” It groups airborne pathogens into viruses, bacteria, and fungi, and connects each to associated diseases.

Viruses include adenovirus, coronavirus (MERS, SARS, SARS-CoV-2), influenza A and B, morbillivirus, mumps virus, norovirus, rhinovirus, rubella virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and variola virus, linked to diseases such as chickenpox, COVID-19, influenza, measles, mumps, gastroenteritis, common cold, rubella, bronchiolitis, and smallpox.

Bacteria listed include Bordetella pertussis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Legionella pneumophila, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, linked to whooping cough, diphtheria, legionella, meningitis, and tuberculosis.

Fungi include Aspergillus, Blastomyces dermatitidis, and Coccidioides immitis, associated with aspergillosis. A color legend indicates which diseases have vaccines.

We've updated our infographic on diseases that can be transmitted through the air we breathe, adding Norovirus.

Most viruses can survive for one to several hours in a poorly ventilated room. See the excellent article in @nytimes.com on this topic: nypost.com/2026/02/14/h...

"We are now facing the largest measles outbreak since the disease was eliminated from the United States over a quarter-century ago." @sanders.senate.gov

Sadly, other diseases are to be expected: without vaccines, poor indoor air renewal will lead to the spread of airborne diseases.

Vaccines effectively protect against many diseases that are transmitted through the air we breathe. Without vaccines, these diseases will spread even more widely because our schools, hospitals, and public places are much less well ventilated than they were a century ago.
