I canceled my subscription to The Washington Post after Bezos interfered with the editorial process. I want to support good journalism—now more than ever—but can I still trust the WaPo? Should I resubscribe? Or will Bezos continue to use it to curry favor with Trump? I first subscribed in 1993.
Frankly, I preferred the original name—The Michigan Wallenberg Institute—for exactly this reason. But the university felt we should defer to the family’s wishes.
We had a different name originally, also to honor Wallenberg, who graduated from University of Michigan in 1935, but the Wallenberg family asked that we use this name, even though it replicated the existing institution.
New fellowship program at The Raoul Wallenberg Institute at the University of Michigan for scholars working on ethnic and religious hatred. Also a brand new institute!

Gershon Hundert
In my senior year at McGill University, I enrolled in Gershon Hundert’s seminar on Eastern European Jewish history. It was the first course I’d taken in Jewish Studies. I continued to learn from him and admire his kindness, erudition, and dedication for many years. May his memory be a blessing.
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ben Eklof—a former colleague of mine in Russian history, a tireless educator, and a generous mentor. Our upcoming panel at #ASEEES will now be a memorial session.
So many disturbing things to talk about, but I’ll start my Bluesky feed instead with an image from yesterday’s walk with my dog. Because that’s the kind of Bluesky I long for.
