I never expected to rediscover my radical activism streak in my 40s! But here we are!

Group 1 did a great job on science ethics! Looking forward to group 2s on science coms. Good focus question โ€œwhat is the โ€˜effectiveโ€™ in effective science communication?โ€

Hi! Teacher and researcher. PhD Student in Active Learning Pedagogy at the University of Toronto. Working with teacher educators to improve instruction and make more effective future teachers (also the random Physics professor ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ). Teacher of physics, bio, and chemistry in high schools.

#iteachphysics #edusky Today I am observing two groups doing their presentations on science communication in a Physics in the Context of Society class. They are obliged to use active learning techniques, but they are also the first group to go. It's always interesting seeing what they come up with!

Apache Helicopter parent. What a joy ๐Ÿ™„

Sorry you had to deal with it. May I suggest a spray bottle for next time?

I feel you. Former teacher in Alberta. Lots of not-so-friendly-towards-the-gays folks there too. Very irritating to be surrounded by. Though Iโ€™d argue Utah is a whole new level. Iโ€™ve some Mormons in my extended familyโ€ฆ it can be awkward.

For sure! I just need to check myself before I wreck myself sometimes, so I figured Iโ€™d offer the same. It super frustrating when parents donโ€™t see what happens day to day and then accuse us of failures. I do question her ambivalence to the kids distress. Likeโ€ฆ weirdly not supportive.

I meanโ€ฆ do you have a bias because you disagree? Not an accusation, just a thought. There were certainly students that I had to check myself on when I found their opinions to be disagreeable.

This past week I got to go with the Chem class to the ROM (where they investigated the chemistry and history of pigments), the Play Class played โ€œThe Fish Gameโ€ to learn about the tragedy of the commons, and the Phys Class explored Gender and the Nature of Science. Been a busy week ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ˜ #edusky

I design self-studies with Teacher Educators and Physics Profs to improve their active learning pedagogy. We work collaboratively to build engaging and useful classes that help the students connect theory to practice/reality. This term: Play and Learning, Chemistry Pedagogy, and Physics in Society ๐Ÿ˜
