Congratulations to Annabel from The Maynard School who is the 1st winner of our branch competition.

Her winning entry had links to both physical + human geography, but also reflected on what Devon means to her.

Thank you to the schools that entered and we look forward to seeing more next year.

I am really looking forward to the @geographicalassoc.bsky.social conference.

My Y9 classes have been using sustainability stools to decide how sustainable it is to modernise salt mining in Ethiopia. I'll be sharing how I have used these throughout our curriculum in my session.

Yes! I teach in Devon (20 minutes from the nearest beach) and some of our kids still haven't visited a beach. Some have definitely never been outside of Devon.

An evening listening to @guyshrubsole.bsky.social and others in Exeter was inspiring. So lovely to hear positive stories about the environment, and what is being done to protect our temperate rainforest. Left with so many ideas to update our lesson about temperate rainforest 🌳🌧

Loved my first session with my geography trainees last week. Some brilliant freebies for them from @geographicalassoc.bsky.social, brand new subject knowledge booklets I worked on last year, and new handouts to reduce their cognitive load. Fridays are the best πŸ‘Œ

One thing I've noticed from my review of the department this term is that students are unclear as to what they need to do to improve. So post mocks Y10s today, colour coded the exam qs to identify areas of improvement.

I live in Devon and it's brilliant! Still close enough to London (2hr30 on train) but you have the coast and Dartmoor. Plus Cornwall is a day trip. Love Devon ❀️

This rings a distant bell that I might have done but a long time ago. I think we did a short speech they had to write first and then present to the class
