Eukaryotes didn't just arise from two partners. Phylogenomics of the LECA proteome reveals multiple waves of bacterial HGT, some predating mitochondrial endosymbiosis, plus a possible role for giant viruses.

Former US counter-terrorism officer Josephine Guilbeau breaks down as she explains what terrorism really is, and how it’s being committed by the US right now. Donald Trump/Pete Hegseth gave the orders to assassinate 168 school children AND THEY KNEW IT WAS A SCHOOL.

A figure showing a 'Simplot' which plots the similarity of a genome to other genomes across a graph, with similarity on the Y-axis and the genome position on the x-axis. Many coloured lines show the sequences being compared - those closest to the top (similarity of 1) are the closest matches in different parts of the genome.

Introducing SimPlot-CL! 🧬
Recombination plays an important role in viral evolution. Similarity plots are a great way to visualize recombination patterns, but generating them across many genomes can be cumbersome

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For

Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

UK leader Starmer averts a leadership challenge for now but remains damaged by Epstein fallout Keir Starmer has secured a temporary respite after fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein files threatened his leadership

We live in a world where #Trump who is nose deep in the #Epstein scandal seems to get away with it.

Yet #UK PM #Starmer (who is not even mentioned once in the files) might get booted for his Epstein exposed pick.

Amazing. We are in the lamest timeline.

Tax is a story Shaping the narrative of what we owe one another

No-one thinks about tax and welfare as a set of net transfers between citizens and the state. We respond to a deep story of punishment and reward. If we want to solve our fiscal problems, we need to engage with those deep stories and find new ones.

Something magnificent about Kemi Badenoch's self-confidence, and her claim that the Mandelson affair is entirely down to her asking questions at PMQs. Like a toddler who thinks their plastic steering wheel is controlling the car.

The BBC has been caught telling its staff not to say Maduro was 'kidnapped' By suppressing one word and promoting others, the BBC isn’t avoiding bias. It’s curating which reality sounds most acceptable.

Middle-aged white guy looking worried, camera slung over his shoulder.

18 months ago I was photographing birds in a US national park when someone jumped out of a car in front of a dozen witnesses, put a Glock to my forehead, and demanded my camera.

This shot is from my first time out birding after that.

Living like this is a deliberate choice.

This BBC News matter
is not about impartiality.
It's a plot to inject right-wing bias into the BBC to make it more like GB and Fox so-called "News".
Will the UK government defend the BBC against Trump and the Faragists?
That would take some political courage, so don't bet on it.
