Incredibly honored that THE TENTH MISTAKE OF HANK HOOPERMAN is now on twenty states' librarians and children's choice award lists! ⭐
This truly means the world to me. Thank you, young readers. And thank you to the librarians who put books into their hands. #BookSky #mglit

Thank you. I will delete my post and follow up with the speaker for more info.
I was just at a conference where a research psychologist said, repeated, and confirmed the opposite. She was talking specifically about teenagers. Is that the difference?

Also, that class was stronger at close reading than every other class. In terms of analyzing diction and patterns...they were 🔥. They learned that through having a class where they felt safe to try & could openly talk about their brains.
Anecdotally, this has been true in my 1:1 coaching work & was true in the small 6th grade class I taught for dyslexic students.
Cover of Laleh and the Language of Birds by Perin Gurel with Marjane Searl. Image shows the mixture of ornithology and fantasy in this debut middle grade novel.
Happy Book Birthday to this gem from @perinwinkle.bsky.social and indie Wildling Press. Middle grade fantasy/mystery combines ornithology, 12th century Persian poetry, feminism, ecology, and a dash of anti-capitalism - all in a brisk 227 pages. Keep an eye on this publisher! #mglit

Mostly, "I think" is the problem in formal student writing, not "I."
I taught Ss it was a nuanced decision & some teachers would draw a clear line that 1st person wasn't allowed.
The situation, audience, & their intended tone could all influence whether it was a good time for "I" or not. Like other words, they can ask
..does this serve my writing?

Middle Grade Verse Novel Stats 2026
It's my favorite month. National Poetry Month! And of course, I have updated middle grade novel-in-verse statistics to share. In 2025, I included verse novel awards as part of my infographic. This year, I'm not doing that here, but I will be posting each of the…
White background. Square border of a green line, a thin white line, and an orange line. Text announces that I am thrilled to embark on my Ed.D journey at Elmbridge University. Logo for Elmbridge is a shield with a synapse modeled to be the trunk of a tree. Photo of me underneath the text and inside the border. I am a White lady with brown hair, shoulder length. I have a small smile in the picture.
I am going back to school to help k-12 education better support twice exceptional learners.
Ask students to summarize a book in four panels. The power of comics and visual literacy. Deep thinking. Analysis. Close reading. Making meaning.
Yay!
