Well, context is important. He's certainly not the last movie critic--many greats still exist--but he's definitely the last of his kind. But times have changed; he, and Siskel, existed at the exact right time in the exact right place. They were magic, and that kind of magic is hard to find anymore.
Very well said! And I couldn't agree more. We still have good film critics, but none like Siskel or Ebert--true unique voices. But, the landscape has changed--they lived at the right place at the right time. Truly magical.

I have bored/annoyed my wife many times opining on how Ebert, and Siskel, represented a type of critic all but gone today, and pretty much entirely eliminated from film criticism in particular: a true eccentric, with a consistent POV
They're both the best--as a Chicagoan, I grew up on him. I have reviews of his memorized by heart, no joke.
