Love your columns. Thanks for telling it like it is and not pretending like this isn’t insane, which so many other media figures are doing.

Pretty immediately I’d say, since his dissertation (which the Forman thesis article draws heavily on) appeared in 1967, so just as the project was concluding!

…which has always read to me as an inherent belief that top-tier scientists were somehow superhuman and not susceptible to the fallacy of human memory.

So many thoughts about this…one of which is the sheer naïveté of Kuhn thinking that scientists would remember the exact details of work performed decades in the past.

The sheer internalism of the project is really staggering.

A deliberate, symbolic strike on civilian infrastructure with no case for military utility. As clear cut as LOAC violations come.

One of my favorite articles to edit during my time at @physicstoday.aip.org. Maybe the most concise illustration of the rocky road back to the Moon.

as with the Nazis ("special treatment" became "separate accommodations"), the Trump admin's euphemisms for murder just keep getting longer and longer

Glad to see this, but I really wish Rabb was actually out there campaigning. I live in his district (and was impressed when I met him at an house party) and this race is absolutely flying under the radar. He needs to get out there!

I pay it too! But yeah it‘s not mentioned in any tax software and the city barely mentions it either.

That said, I’ve seen a bunch of people on Reddit saying that the city does actually enforce it. So maybe they do?

which I honestly respect more than this nonsense…

the gall of a $30B company saying they need "help pay[ing] the bills" is really quite something.

This is the Israeli playbook from Gaza (and Putin's in Ukraine for that matter) and it is ultra-disturbing to see the US carry out repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure. It simply does not serve a military purpose.

I had this issue forever and it drove me crazy. Was introduced after some update in 2024 or so and then went away sometime last year for me (without any registry hacks). Really frustrating.

i've been working on Aaron Copland's 1930 masterpiece, the Piano Variations (imagine Appalachian Spring without the tonality) and there's something about rugged, granitic, sparse, yet beautiful texture that's really captivating.

if you're looking to work off anger about the political situation, may i recommend to you modernist art in all its forms: music, literature, visual art, whatever.

and you'll realize that people 100 years ago were grappling with the same crap we're dealing with now.
