Terminally ill people have been let down by the handful of Peers blocking the assisted dying Bill.
This fight isn't over - parliamentarians must deliver on the will of MPs and the public.
Becky says her brother Nathaniel Dye, an inspirational campaigner who died of cancer, would’ve been furious to know that the Bill will fall due to delays.
She feels betrayed by the system - that Lords are not reflecting the public will, but are instead “able to serve their own agendas.”
Poppy Bilderbeck - whose mum died of cancer last summer - has accused Peers of a “massive breach of their authority and power” for blocking the progress of the assisted dying Bill.
She says having the option of an assisted death would have brought her mum “peace and comfort” at the end of her life.

Christie Arntsen is a mum-of-two whose incurable breast cancer has returned for the fifth time.
She feels “robbed” by Peers blocking the assisted dying Bill, and cannot believe unelected Lords can override MPs.
“That just seems so undemocratic…I can’t understand why it’s been allowed to happen.”

As the Lords delay, families like Tom’s are left with trauma that never goes away.
MPs have voted for choice - now they must stand by their word.
Content warning: graphic details of a bad death.
Ailsa and Janet share the harrowing final hours of their brother Tom, who died from terminal cancer.
Despite receiving excellent end-of-life care, Tom’s symptoms were unmanageable and he suffered terribly - denied the choice he wanted.
Can`t join you but hoping you persuade those blocking to cease doing so

“The blocking of this Bill is not the end of the story.”
Angela has been campaigning for assisted dying for over two decades, after her husband Tom had a painful death.
Please listen to what she has to say.
. @economist.com, like nearly 8 in 10 people, believes dying people should have choice at the end of life and is calling on the Prime Minister to show leadership and ensure the Bill gets enough parliamentary time.
It calls out delaying Lords, saying their criticisms "do not stand up to scrutiny."

The Lords can delay the Bill - but they cannot stop it forever. There is a route forward - if we make enough noise.

Peter Wilson’s wife, Beverly Sand, took her own life after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Now he is speaking out against a handful of Lords blocking the assisted dying Bill - warning that this delay will condemn more people to “...undignified deaths in all kinds of terrible circumstances.”
Mavis survived - and was investigated for his murder. She was found not guilty, after 18 months of distress and anxiety over a potential life sentence.
Compassion should not be a crime. The legacy of the Eccleston’s terrible experience must be an end to this cruel, outdated ban on assisted dying.
Mavis, his devoted wife of almost 60 years, had only horrific options: watch helplessly as her husband died in agony, or break the law.
She should never have been put in this position. It denied her family the chance to say goodbye, and risked an 80 year old spending the rest of her life in prison.
At its heart, this is the story of a broken system. In 2018 Dennis was suffering from unrelievable pain and other distressing symptoms.
Dennis felt he had no other option but to end his own life behind closed doors, rather than endure further suffering as he died.
We welcome the news that ITV's next campaigning drama will tell the story of Mavis and Dennis Eccleston.
When Dennis was dying from terminal cancer, he and Mavis faced an impossible decision.

. @economist.com is calling out the filibuster by a small number of opposed Peers who are stalling the assisted dying Bill, denying the House of Lords its final vote.
We agree. It's time for Britain to "finally join other socially progressive countries and fulfil the will of its people." Act now 👇
