Simon can't help but let out a satisfied rumble himself as he realises he found the perfect omega just for him.

One who is a bit too much like an alpha, while he himself against all reason, would gladly submit to Johnny if it makes him feel comfortable with him like this.

It's unbecoming of an alpha to let anyone pin them down, force them onto their back, but for Johnny he'll do anything. He hugs him close, letting Soap lay on top of him as they cuddle.

Johnny eventually falls asleep and Simon melts when he, for the first time, hears Soap purr.

It's a journey, a long one with many steps, but eventually they get there. Simon sitting down on Johnny's bed while the other man is in his lap facing him, actively keeping Simon pinned down in the nest he made.

It's a ticking time bomb with each touch as to when their resolve crumbles. Lips so close to touching, fingers scratching the others neck, a hand pressing on a mating gland, giving comfort and a sense of safety.

It starts with standing closer together during briefings, by sharing a moment to say goodbye or good luck before each missions, with foreheads touching and gentle words said through curled up lips.

They scent each other frequently, share looks, can feel what the other means.

It's all the assurance Johnny needs to give it a try, to, for the first time, give having a relationship a chance.

They take it slow, don't give each other a bite mark immediately or share a rut or heat.

He bares his neck, makes himself small and holds back his scent. He let's Johnny lead, tells him that he doesn't need to prove himself with him, that he likes his confidence and independence. That Johnny is perfect the way he is and no "alpha-like behavior" will scare him away.

That is until one day, when Simon decides to let go of the control each alpha craves to have in situations like this. The next time Soap comes around to gift him something small, covered in his scent with a grin and a cheeky comment on the tip of his tongue, Simon submits.

It almost seems like a game to Johnny, giving Simon hints of his returned interest in the other man through courting, playful banter and subtle touches.

But every time Simon pushes back, Soap takes a step back as well. It's infuriating, frustrating, confusing.

A new knife gets delivered to him with the new mail. Ghost never gets one, but now he suddenly has a new high quality weapon with his initials engraved on it.

There's no doubt about it. Against the norm, Johnny, an omega, is courting him. And against expectations, Simon likes it

Soap isn't your typical omega, and he let's Ghost know just how much the following week.

His clothes are scented the next time they come back from laundry, one of Soap's shirts thrown into the mix. The extra apple they get for lunch are now often gifted to Ghost by his Sergeant.

"I-" Ghost thinks about it, realises that there might be some truth to Soaps words, but he also knows he can't be what Soap needs. "I can't." He answers, but Soap has none of it.

"So you do like me?"

He didn't say no and now Soap knows enough. Their conversation ends soon after

It's then that Soap takes a step closer, damn near pinning Ghost against the wall. "Can I take a guess?" He asks, cheekily, his usual smile back.

Ghost doesn't answer, so Soap continues. "I think you like me, Simon." Soap damn near whispers.

"I-...I didn't mean to." He admits. *I guess I have been hovering over you. I'm sorry, Johnny."

"Why do you do it?" Soap asks, now sounding a lot more calmer than before. "Think I can't handle myself?"

"I know you can." Ghost quickly answers. "I don't know why I do it."

"Yes, you did! You damn near growled when Gomez had me pinned on the mat. I don't need you to protect me or to stand up for me. I'm capable of doing all that myself, you know?"

Ghost damn near cringes when he realises that Soap is right, that he has been acting like he says.

"Staking your claim over me! Stop protecting me off the field, stop scenting me, stop telling other alphas to fuck off! I don't need you to do all that."

"I didn't-." Ghost says neutrally, truly believing it, but he gets cut off.

It takes a long time, and a bit of arguing to realise what he's doing. Soap pulling him aside one day with a scowl on his face. "Stop that." He gets told off. And when Ghost questions what he means he gets near-well yelled at.
