Agree with you on both those points. I think the fact that NPM packages run arbitrary code after being installed by default also makes it an easy method to attack.

I was thinking about this recently - is it security through obscurity or does the Elixir community has a reason to be cocky about avoiding supply chain attacks so far? I don't know enough about the attack vectors to know if there's something unique to NPM etc that makes it especially vulnerable.
