It's so bewildering and funny to me that And A Scampi And Chips For Grandpa has found itself soaring new vitality among the youth

Honestly on thought it's probably just because they need a more sophisticated dialogue engine, plus it's clear that they couldn't keep pumping out the Miéville prose and speculative dialects they established and there really isn't any harm in tuning it down

Me reluctantly having to go to Bey Lah and Grit Gate again because everyone in it is incredibly annoying or someone's RP character that is both simultaneously over- and under-written

Caves of Qud is a game I think about a lot which is funny because I think it has some utterly terrible character design but it does stick with you

My "I've made some certainly very serious and writerly thoughts about the idea of 'settling' wrt my current boyfriend in this substack" is making people ask a lot of questions etc etc

huge ty to everyone supporting the Substudies project, & in that spirit i finally finished the translation drafts i started a while back of Adorno-Benjamin’s joint critical (incredibly catty lol) “reports” for Horkheimer on 3 Paris conferences in early August ‘37! open.substack.com/pub/jamescra...

Playing Caves of Qud a lot recently, the worldbuilding is pretty great but if I had a complaint its that there are clearly characters that are dev faves like Q-Girl or the Svardim in the Yd Freehold that expound on left-wing anarchism and I'm not sure if the devs realise they're actually communalist

These are so fuckin great W, my immediate go to was to "How Do I Do It Right" and this is just the critical voice talking so you were totally right to ignore that and give me something that actually does matter. Love you !!!!

I've always been incredibly poor at visually communicating things quickly and effectively and think it would be a nice thing to be able to do when I'm running a game

This is a general question for everyone who reads (feel free to repost) but @wellawoods.bsky.social was the first person I had sought to ask: are there any recommended resources available for complete rank beginners to illustration? Mainly in anatomy, architectural detail and weaponry

Vault of the Drow: The 1st Drow Campaign | D&D Walkthroughs YouTube video by DM It All

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO6Z... really underrated feature about DM it all is the choice of chapter music, feels really carefully curated to fit the tone of dark pulp

Can never fault the Japanese rule of cool with a lot of these things but I do think they thought hard about how a person's misconceptions of the world could shape reality and incorporated that as a semi-self-critique

Played through the original Baroque PSX game, kinda got bored so didn't get the final ending though. I do love how it pretends to be a Neoplatonist game at first but reveals itself to be Spinozist in disguise.

Reason I'd encourage this is I think generally people don't really know this is indeed a thing you can do without any kind of commodity attachment or stakes and for many they just sort of adorn these as personal belief instead?

I'm a TTRPG nerd so of course I'd think this but I think everyone should indulge in a bit of worldbuilding from time to time, feels like something we ought to do more as a therapeutic creative exercise. Share it with others, engage with other's worlds and adapt them. Or not!

If I could make one film it would be as a finale to the Exorcist films where the science overlaps with the occultism and a priest using the hypno mind synching machine introduced in 2 assumes the mantle of God by possessing Jesus Christ across space and time

My "gifted child syndrome" moment was at age 30 when my mother called me a genius for saying she could put the laptop on the toilet seat to watch shows in the bath
