I did one example where students who reported receiving a flu vaccine this season (a question on the pre class survey) were vaccinated in the simulation. And yes I used some network visualizations as well to show both the structure of network and result of epidemic simulations

I have done interactive exercises of infections spreading on networks. Students filled out surveys before class that I used to construct contact networks with different layers, and then simulated epidemics spreading on this network.
Experience in viral phylodynamics? Check out this awesome opportunity to use those tools to understand brain structure 🧠🦠. We'll be next door neighbors and you can join the amazing infectious disease dynamics and neuroscience communities at Johns Hopkins

👋 Exciting to see so many new accounts with familiar names popping up here the last few days! Looking forward to a new (and hopefully more sane) space to discuss science and public health. If you're also just starting out, check out these great starter packs for infectious disease modeling:

Hey senior grad students + postdocs: If I can’t easily find your contact info online, you’re missing out on career-advancement opportunities! As a conference organizer/journal editor, I often want to invite the 1st author of those amazing papers, but can't find them! Some ideas:
Our study estimating the impact of eviction bans on COVID-19 spread is out in @NatureComms! Huge collaborative effort including @AnjalikaNande @justinksheen @michaelzlevy @urbprof @emmalwalters @jkbren @mattk7 @svscarpino @alexvespi https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-021-22521-5
Really nice study from @AdeetiU and team @Apple using #AppleWatch to monitor Parkinson's Disease symptoms in real time and improve clinical care! https://stm.sciencemag.org/content/13/579/eabd7865
Making it Twitter official: I started a new faculty job at @HopkinsMedicine (part of @JHUBME @ICM_JHU @JHIDDynamics) and am recruiting students + postdocs to contribute to our work modeling infectious disease dynamics + evolution. Join us!

for COVID-19? (3/10)
Unemployment is soaring in US and record eviction filings since March. Luckily many regions have moratoriums on evictions or other protections, but those are set to expire very soon, some have already let them lapse https://evictionlab.org/covid-eviction-policies/ Why is this bad...
Project led by @michaelzlevy + @justinksheen, in collab. w/ @AnjalikaNande, @urbprof, + others
For a poignant story of evictions + COVID19 check out recent Op-Ed by @just_shelter : www.nytimes.com/2020/08/29/opinion/sunda... (2/10)
The looming eviction crisis 🏠🔑 is bad news for transmission of #COVID19, according to our models: sharing some work-in-progress, since eviction protections are expiring soon in many districts. Draft results here: https://github.com/alsnhll/COVID19EvictionSimulations (1/10)
For example, I've been surprised that some field standards like @PLOSCompBiol have few papers on this topic and very slow turnaround, whereas for example @NatureHumBehav has some great papers appearing quickly (2/2)
Epi modelers: What journals do you think have been especially good or mostly bad at handling COVID-19 math modeling papers? Good = interested in topic, fast turnaround, appropriate reviewers, etc. (1/2)
Can I just remind us all that 7 months into the pandemic and people STILL have to wear bandanas over their faces because we’re STILL out of 10 cent surgical masks
New preprint out with @AnjalikaNande +@michaelzlevy + B. Adlam + J. Sheen: We dig into understanding how both the clinical course and transmission network structure of COVID-19 influence the epidemic trajectory under social distancing measures...
If you're a COVID-19 researcher looking to crowdsource some help with projects from other scientists, then http://united-against-covid.org/ and https://crowdfightcovid19.org/ are both great places to get the word out

@MITREcorp has a really comprehensive dashboard for the US that lets you visualize and track a lot of different indicators at county/state/national level, and integrates a few different modeling tools as well https://dashboards.c19hcc.org/
