Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

Speaking as single mother, child of single mother, she can fold that up and shove it.

A parent's PURPOSE is to be proud of their child, whatever and whoever that child is or becomes. You guide them, teach them, help them, provide them with boundaries, but ultimately, they choose who they are.

1,204 days sober. 3 years, 40 months, 173 weeks, or 28,902 hours.

Passed twelve hundred days without realising.

I did buy a bottle of Bailey's at Christmas, which Isaac and I shared, across several days, but haven't had any more (or any desire for any more).

And the experience really illustrated how one small drink can affect your thinking and focus.

Just realised I didn't ALT TEXT that, bad Danie.

Image shows two copies of the book on a red velvet background. Book is Aestred Thurga Pyre of Faith by Danie Ware, showing a close up of an armoured Sister of Battle, helm off and ferocious expression. She has a sword in her hands that says PIOUS.

NEW BOOK DAY!

Aestred Thurga is out today! ⚜️

Cover by Marc Lee, audiobook read by Emma Gregory.

LOTS of fun with this one. Zombies are always good, but with the Tapestry, and with the research and world-building that made Katerah one of my favourite settings :)

a screenshot of a post from facebook, with an array of AI slop posters at the bottom, all advertisting some kind of "spring fayre" and all looking like busy bland white noise with no decent information

"A plea from an artist:
All these posters look the same, yet they are from different areas in the U.K. so much so I was concerned that I had repeated the same poster when compiling this.
I realise that many group committees are volunteers and people don't have the time or funding to consult or even ask someone arty to make a poster for you, but please ditch the urge to "save time" and money by using ChatGPT or other ai services.
At this point your poster would be better seen using Comic Sans and Word Art, or even a sharpie and a Helix letter stencil.
The excessive and sudden burst of ai to help "promote" events has actually lead to nobody looking at the posters because when they appear on social media we think we've already seen it. It no longer works for marketing or promotional posters, as in its very brief appearance, ai has already saturated the market.
Please just get a marker pen out instead.
Homemade and human made is the way forward now if you want your event to be seen and remembered."

I've been seeing variations of this post hitting a ton of groups on facebook for market vendors lol

A lovely shout out for the first Sister Augusta novella, The Bloodied Rose, in this week's post - and alongside a truly excellent array of titles!

So sorry to hear the news about Ian Watson.

His vivid work was my first introduction to Warhammer & will always be special.

One xmas we made a celebratory drink called 'Ian Watson's Space Marintini' @danacea.bsky.social told him & he was quite tickled. We'll raise a glass in his honour this year 🖤

Very, very sad to hear this.

This one from 2008, and I think the first time I met him. Somewhere, I have still the signed copy of Orgasmachine that he handed me, at the same event.

Oh that's sad news. He was one of the very first people I ever met, when I started coming to Cons in '08. And quite the character, bless him!

something that wrinkles my brain every time I remember it is the fact that total eclipses are only possible on earth because the moon and sun appear to be the same size in our sky, due to the insanely, astronomically unlikely fluke that the moon is 400x smaller than the sun but 400x closer to us.

Well, Peter Jackson's Battle of Five Armies is every bit as godawful as I remember.

That's quite enough of that.

Presumably, this Personal Jesus will enable you at every turn, compliment and encourage you, and tell you everything you need to hear.

Nope, can't see a problem with that. Absolutely fine.
