“Americans estimated that the average Black American family had about 50% of the amount of wealth that the average White American family had in 1963 & believed this had grown to 90% by 2016. In reality, Black families only had 5% of White family’s wealth in 1963 & had only grown to 10% by 2016.”

Just a reminder that DEI matters because it wasn’t until 1943 that someone was able to (and unfortunately had to) scientifically prove that racial inferiority was a myth. Centuries of racist narratives aren’t undone overnight and certainly not without active efforts to dismantle these ideologies.

Will this be available virtually at all?

Hitler thought he was saving his country, too. This is so easily disproved.

Are these same protestors concerned about the way school vouchers and ESAs deplete public school resources? Just curious…

What a beautiful, inspiring day at Denver’s capitol where people spoke of and fought for love, inclusivity and human rights.

Is there any sort of plan to have a federal department replace the current DoE? Would this just shift all power to individual states? What changes would happen on a local and state level if this DID somehow happen?

Today, many of my California-based students were absent as they participated in a movement called “A Day Without Immigrants.” And all I could think was how privileged I am to teach these youth, who seem to understand more about human rights than some of our national leaders.

And one was a pediatric patient who had been flying home to Mexico after treatment. Heartbreaking.

How Louisiana boosted its reading scores by going 'back to the basics'

The next time a GOP politician says that they need a voucher program because test scores are not improving, let’s remember that Alabama introduced a voucher program last year while their test scores are improving. It’s not about test scores. It’s never been about test scores.

This is a brilliant act of resistance. Let’s put those hs Spanish classes to work!

I think that means they stand for… money? 🫠 These are definitely very telling times right now. Universities need to make their moves carefully and thoughtfully.

Possibly. I do lobbying for healthcare organizations, but I had to have the wherewithal to find the nonprofits and alliances that do that work. Might be helpful even to have a list of organizations that have advocacy departments for people to contact.

It’s like we forgot that 3rd grade “melting pot” lesson…

Hoping this model of resistance spreads like wildfire.

Do you anticipate an increase in educational lobbying given the current political climate around education topics? Do you think this type of grassroots activism from teachers broadly speaking would be beneficial?

It seems like they’d rather just penalize less wealthy people by redistributing funds to places that aren’t necessary rather than investing in spaces where it could help many students instead of one. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Our district had a severe snow storm today that started early and was unrelenting; many questioned why we didn’t call a snow day. By 6pm, our superintendent sent this apologetic email for making a bad call. It was a profound example of humility in a highly scrutinized administrative role.

Thankful for passionate educator leaders like yourself who care and continue pushing forward. This current political climate can feel so discouraging.
