Per Lutnick, US wants to make everything at home & will apply punitive tariffs on all countries importing anything from China, which of course every country exporting to the US does. Protectionism was tried before, Smoot-Hawley Bill, world trade declined by 60% and depression. Brilliant.

Many GOP leaders are ignorant of history. The American Revolution was part of the
“enlightenment”inspired by the classical world of Greece & Rome, opposed to the influence of the Church. Jews’ voting rights were restricted till mid 19th century.

I found this book in my library from when I was working on Swedish. I didn’t read it then, but enjoying it now, reading & listening to the audiobook, both in Swedish of course . Lots of personal details about Napoleon. Herman Lindquist is one of my favorite historians .

I’ve been following Mark Carney improve in French over the last two months. Simply remarkable. His French this evening was excellent, calm, comfortable, clear. He understands well and communicates well in French.
