I don't do a lot of horror/slasher pieces, but I do like actor Brad Dourif, who has voiced the murderous doll Chucky since its inception; and he'll be at Steel City Con next month. #ChildsPlay

I did indeed schedule another slate of acrylic painting classes.

Day 28 of #Webruary
Green Goblin

We close out this Webruary with the foremost Spider-Man foe, Norman Osborn. Thank you all for following along with me this month, it has been a blast!

Day 27 of #Webruary
Cardiac

The penultimate day of Webruary brings us Dr. Elias Wirtham, who it occurs to me is kind of a 90’s supervillain Luigi Mangione? I wonder how a character like this would be received today.

Day 26 of #Webruary
The Lizard

Webruary has gone international! Some dear friends of mine sent me their three girls’ versions of Dr. Curt Connors here all the way from Edinburgh, Scotland. They did such a great job!

Day 25 of #Webruary
Shriek

The characters from the 90’s, like Frances Barrison here, are all so… 90’s 🙂 I think Spider-Man characters may be the purest reflection of where the medium found itself over the decades, with distinct flavors and tropes across the eras since the 1960’s.

Day 24 of #Webruary
Silvermane

As a kid, the idea of aging mobster Silvio Manfredi replacing his body with robotics seemed a little silly, even for a Spider-Man foe. Today, a vicious, decrepit old man clinging to power by any means feels more like the villain for our times.

Day 23 of #Webruary
Tarantula

I remember as a kid thinking that this guy had such a great look, though I can’t recall having read an issue with him actually in it. But the black-on-red with those toe spikes just worked.

Day 22 of #Webruary
Sandman

As we celebrate the US Men’s and Women’s hockey teams both bringing home the gold, I enter the stretch week of Webruary with this guy… definitely one of my favorite Spidey foes when I was a kid.

Day 21 of #Webruary
Overdrive

I was totally unfamiliar with this character, and I’m not sure there’s even much of a “default” look to use; so I defaulted to my own predilection for shiny reflective surfaces 🙂

Day 20 of #Webruary
Rhino

Tempting as it was to try for the mechanized version of Aleksei Sytsevich we saw at the end of Amazing Spider-Man 2, after some sketching I thought that design just may not work well in a still image.

Day 19 of #Webruary
The Spot

I had some fun with this one, another direct homage to a Spider-Man artist. I based this on a well-known panel from The Amazing Spider-Man #589 by artist Paulo Siquera, but changed out Peter Parker for Miles Morales.

Day 18 of #Webruary
Tombstone

This was as close I’ve come this month to not getting one of these out on time, but we got in just under the wire 🙂

Day 17 of #Webruary
Yith

This is handily the most obscure character on this month’s list. But I get excited about painting a variety of textures, so throwing snake scales into the mix got me right on board. And the character’s obscurity offered leeway to mix up the appearance.

Day 15 of #Webruary
Kingpin

He’s now THE Daredevil nemesis, but Wilson Fisk got his start as a major Spider-Man bad guy. I stumbled upon a great cosplay photo from the early 2000’s to base this on, but couldn’t locate a name to credit.

Day 13 of #Webruary
Black Cat

Everyone’s second-favorite feline-themed burglar here, Felicia Hardy, pays homage to a cat-related scene that fans of classic Hollywood movies may recognize.

Day 12 of #Webruary
Electro

Is there a more delightfully ridiculous 1960’s costume design? How did Max Dillon’s mom let him out of the house dressed like that? Listen, if not even Jamie Foxx can make you cool… you should probably just lean into being uncool.

Day 11 of #Webruary
Veranke

It may be a stretch to present her as specifically a Spider-Man rogue, she’s more generally a Marvel antagonist. But she popped up in some prominent Spidey-centric stories and sports a great sci-fi look.

Day 10 of #Webruary
Prowler

I came across some amazing cosplay by Ernie Cisneros (@s_e_n_t_i_n_e_l_ on Instagram) in the Spider-Verse design to use as reference.

Day 7 of #Webruary
The Chameleon

My eldest daughter—who somehow, preposterously, graduates high school in a few short months—asked whether any of this year’s Webruaries will be handsome men. This was the best I had to offer.

Day 5 of #Webruary
Vulture

I resisted the temptation to do Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes from Homecoming, even though he’s my favorite iteration of the character, opting for the very classic old bald guy in a green suit.
