Argh, I forgot to add a lot of people I have very little faith in making the correct choices.

My summary take on Trump's second term is that the US will be 20+ years behind the curve for the rest of my life. That's with a lot of elections breaking leftwards, hard work, and a ton of luck.
One time, Howard Dean had to drop out of a race because he yelled weirdly.
Everyone, I mean everyone, who attempts a Boston accent should use this as their primary training video.
What is your industry's version of AI hype?
That is:
this is big ➡️
this is everywhere ➡️
this is inevitable
(voices in the wilderness) ➡️
well maybe not everything ➡️
actually kind of sucks ➡️
let's avoid using this
The rate you quote post Tom Nichols is inversely proportional to how much I take you seriously.
I disagree on it being a reasonable take. "If this thing that has been 90% lies is even 10% true" is deeply weird math.
Further, I don't think you can organize against hype. Remember when AGI was happening Any Moment Now? Organizing against lies is a waste of effort, and is often designed as such.
Thanks, that's the one I was going to bring up.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: I start watching it. My brother comes downstairs "What's on?"
"Last Crusade"
"Awesome" sits down.
Other brother wanders in "Last Crusade?"
"Yeah"
"Cool".
Dad steps in "What's on, boys?"
"Last Crusade!"
"Excellent."
Like an inescapable gravity well.
Can we also talk about how (blue || black) && red always ran out first, leaving you with a less-than-75% used pen you now had to toss?
If LLMs were good, I could say "Mute this person anytime they're back on their bullshit about {THING}".
Two things can be true. Gonna be a lot of that for the next few days/weeks/months.
Burying the lede. Six plus posts whining about the choice of one word. But the take-furnace has to be kept roaring hot, I suppose.
Traveled for some IT work at Pearl Harbor. I was young and wore a shirt and tie to compensate. CPO pulls me aside Monday: "You don't have to dress so formal, we're pretty chill here."
Showed up in a shirt and tie again on Tuesday and she said directly: "Cut it out, you're stressing out my staff."
Fr. McSherry once said "Paxton, I'm whelmed." Brutal.
Thanks!
"[T]here are in fact some very smart critiques of institutional diversity programs...."
Any examples?
She sees your fandom as affirmation, your money as funding for the harm she causes to trans people.
It doesn't matter how you feel about her work, whether it was a formative touchstone or not. If you still buy the merch or hype up Harry Potter, you are complicit.
When did "cost(s)" become "spend"? And why?
Waiting for ol' whatshisname to come through and tell you how your "smug self-righteousness is a bad look" again. 🤡
Why? Why spend time on this? Why waste effort on this?
"I'll connect you with [department] and pass along this information so you don't have to repeat yourself" is canonically never, ever true.
Lordy but the cope is strong with y'all.
It's intentional. The answer is in your question. I'm not even being snarky. There's nothing to hold them to account.
It's wildly dumb that 3+ weeks out it's cheaper to fly from Newark to Boston than it is to take a train.
Sic semper proditores.
40, assuming I haven't forgotten any.
Saw it at the grocery store last week.
I was recommended two people to follow as "reasonable" AI enthusiasts. One was good! The other mostly just whines about how much everyone hates AI.
So the recommendations were about as accurate as AI in and of itself.
Why does "Is Doug E. Fresh there?" / "No he's not in right now. [click]" give me chills all these years later?
