thx! I’d love to include this in a piece on LGBT books I’m writing for Electric Lit. Can you clarify?

Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

Boys at bootcamp: two sides of American masculinity When a trans-genderqueer author’s nephew joined the US Army, they wondered whether their closeness would endure

"Boys at Bootcamp" is about my connection w my nephew--who recently joined the Army--& our evolving relationship as I've transitioned. Couldn't find a home for us boys in the U.S. so we kicked down the back door. THX @theobserveruk.bsky.social! tinyurl.com/BOYS-AT-BOOT... @evanurquhart.bsky.social

In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

The Epstein stuff is always so amazing to me because it's like "yes he was a sex criminal but if you can get past that, he was also an avowed eugenicist"

The Annihilating Impact of a Mother’s Silence - Electric Literature Jeannie Vanasco’s new memoir intimately explores how isolating the silent treatment can be

"While silence can be a powerful tool, if you’re repeatedly using it to punish a loved one, you’re alienating them when you actually want a closer relationship." (@aliontas.bsky.social)

Several states (including California, Michigan, Oregon, and Wisconsin) have announced that they’ve begun processing full food stamp payments. Thank you to those states for stepping up to support families in need!

“I’m still part of the family, it’s there I live to the exclusion of everywhere
else. It’s in its aridity, it’s terrible harshness, it’s malignance that I’m most deeply sure of myself, at the heart of my essential certainty, the certainty that later on I’ll be a writer.”-Duras

They’ve bombed abortion clinics, killed doctors, sentenced women to death over unwanted pregnancies, killed trans and queer people for asking for rights. There’s literally no kind of political violence that I’ve not seen come from the right in this country, and it’s never engaged with seriously.
