Magyar says his government will work for a ‘free, European’ Hungary in break with Orbán era – Europe live Tisza leader thanks voters in Facebook post and says his administration will be ‘well-functioning and compassionate’ Programme director of the CEU Democracy Institute, and author of Tainted Democracy: Viktor Orbán and the Subversion of Hungary Magyar’s improbable rise was made possible by the government’s worsening economic record and growing anger over its pro-Russian, anti-European stance. For years, Hungarian voters had felt trapped between an authoritarian government and a feeble, fractured opposition. Magyar broke that deadlock. Removing Orbán from office is one thing. Dismantling Orbánism is quite another. Continue reading...

Cute little girl in Dunnes earlier.

Mother (to partner): what about these tortellini – tomato and goat's cheese?

Little girl, genuinely shocked: ghost cheese!

Fair enough. It’s often unclear how “popular” a lot of populist policies actually are a lot of time, like hardline anti-immigrant stuff.

And I’d say FF/FG definitely can be populist too especially with tax cuts.

We are getting reports that it is Not Raining.

It seems impossible, I know, but they are coming in from all sides.

I repeat- Not Raining is what people looking out of windows are saying.

I often don’t agree with takes on that podcast but I didn’t think they were overly unfair to SF here? Doherty’s contribution re: Ukraine in the Dáil the other day was quite bad imo. More of a concious appeal to the “I’m sick of Ukraine, Ireland first” Twitter cohort rather than the usual abstention.

I find myself nostalgic for the days when evil people had to pretend not to be evil, because being evil was considered socially unacceptable.

I'd say at least half of the news lines that I read when I wake up in the morning now read like text-based exposition you find lying around in Fallout games.

All Irish political parties continue to use X every day, despite the far-right CEO, sexual harassment as a service, and now even rampant CSAM.

Really bizarre that most people just accept this as normal tbh. Especially so for left/progressive parties like my own (Labour), SocDems, Greens, PBP etc.

Even if you think the odds of this happening have risen from 1% to say 20%, this is *insane* on a level that's hard to process.

changing our transport system is also crucial for breaking some of the influence that arseholes like trump and putin have over us – the less oil we burn, the more free we are

Asked Enterprise Minister Peter Burke if it’s appropriate for the Govt to have a presence on a site not just hosting but creating CSAM.

He said: “If it continues, it would be something I’d be hugely concerned about. This has to stop.”

I don’t think there’s even a straightforward set of policy prescriptions for antisemitism because its both concurrent with and downstream of like 15 other massive societal problems we’re doing hardly anything to solve

Syria calls Israeli incursion, strikes that killed 13 a ‘war crime’ Two Syrian children are among those killed by Israeli strikes following the incursion into the town of Beit Jinn.

Unbelievable. When will countries ever pressure Israel to stop this behavior in a meaningful way? If not, why will it ever stop?
