Stone Temple Pilots (2010) - Stone Temple Pilots. Their comeback album with a newly sober Weiland. Also their last album with Weiland, as he sadly wasn't newly sober for very long. Still, all I love about STP is on display, and this is an underrated album. Album closer Maver is particularly great.

The album cover to Plastic Beach by Gorillaz. Unlike previous covers, this one's not drawn by Jamie Hewlett (though it is apparently based on one of his drawings). It's a 3D render of an ocean and sky, with the camera at ocean-level. In front of the viewer is a small, flat island. An old-school sailing ship is docked at the left side, and there are palm trees and small dwellings on it. There's a lighthouse on the ride side, along with some more palm trees, and a smaller, more modern sail ship. There's a buoy at the far right. Dominating the island is a large rock formation - a column in the center that reaches far into the air before spreading out into a flat surface, almost like a mushroom. On this is a huge, white, modern-looking mansion. You can also see that part of the mansion's substructure is built into the rock. Plastic Beach (2010) - Gorillaz. I wouldn't say any of the tracks on this album quite hit the heights of the best stuff on Demon Days, but it's consistently very good. It feels like by this point Albarn could ask anyone he wanted to guest, and they'd say yes. Good album, not a lot of filler.

I know a contingent of Bsky is rabidly anti-LLM, and I understand the reasons behind that. However, there's no indication in this postmortem that vibe coding was the issue or that the code was LLM-generated. It was a simple oversight that coders have been making since coding was invented.

No Name No Color (2010) - Middle Class Rut. This band is probably remembered as a 1-hit wonder, which is a shame because they rule. The vocals are a bit like the Beastie Boyz except if they were a good rock group instead of a boring rap group with mediocre flow (😘). Their best work comes later, tho.

In the center is painted the best of a man with what looks like airbrush, all in greyscale. One of his eyes is pouring liquid and the other is a vector circular sawblade shape in black with a white starburst inside it. Heligoland (2010) - Massive Attack. The last full album from this group. It's a solid disc, but it's not quite up to the very high standards of the previous two. I don't feel like their guest vocalists bring as much to the table this time around, though it's hard to match Sinéad and Elizabeth Fraser

Brothers (2010) - Black Keys. Friends of mine thought I wouldn't like this band because the sparse, 60s-throwback production isn't really my jam. They're partially right, but this album overcomes that & works for me, as do the next two. Next Girl, She's Long Gone, and Sinster Kid are all standouts.

Over that is a grungy sans-serif font in the same paper color that says "BAD BOOKS" and then text giving a track listing for side A and Side B in much smaller font. The other four-fifths are given over to six ink drawings of the band members. They are all in three quarter profile, drawn in a somewhat cartoony / exaggerated style, each with a decorative oval around them (the ovals are all textured differently). At the bottom are their initials - AH for Andy Hull, KD for Kevin Devine, CF for Chris Freeman, JC for Jonathan Corley, BH for Benjamin Homala, and RM for Robert McDowell. They all look very mid-00s indie. Lots of facial hair and long locks.

I (2010) - Bad Books. This band is mostly Manchester Orchestra with the addition of singer/songwriter Kevin Devine. I saw them open for Silversun Pickups in the mid 2010s and after their set walked immediately to the merch table and bought both CDs. Never done that before or since. Great stuff!

The album cover to mean everything to nothing by Manchester Orchestra. It's an abstract image - it looks to me like a badly developed, corrupted photo but it's hard to be sure. It's mostly just a blob of texture in blues, greys, and blacks. On the top, right, and bottom side, the inks are bleeding into a cream color, making it almost look like it was stamped on paper. Above all of this is a semi-translucent grungy serif font in large block letters that says "MEAN EVERYTHING TO NOTHING" and below that in the same font but smaller, "MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA"

Mean Everything to Nothing (2009) - Manchester Orchestra. My favorite band of the last fifteen years. I didn't find them till much later, but I've gone back to most of their albums (the first one hasn't grabbed me yet). I love Andy's lyrics, and his voice has only gotten better. A regular listen.
