Feeling despair over the future of America - feels like we are already in the Absolutist coup that DJT tried to start on Jan 6 - religious fanatics and billionaire opportunists giving total power to a deranged, dying sociopath narcissist with 1000s of nukes. Where's the mass movement please?

yes we are getting dumber... people are reading books less, critical thinking is atrophying... it is obvious.

If a Democratic president said “here’s my crypto account, just send money to me” Republicans would lose their minds. Because it’s Donald, they don’t care.

Silicon Valley Whistleblowers Warn Elon Musk ‘Hijacking’ Republicans to Control Entire US Government Former followers of the ‘Dark Enlightenment’ say a planned 'neo-reactionary' hollowing out of government is happening in real time

A document authored by an anonymous group of whistleblowers accuses Elon Musk of attempting to spearhead a private hostile takeover of the US Government on behalf of an extremist anti-democracy philosophy known as the ‘Neoreactionary’ movement, by effectively hijacking the Republican Party.

expecting to meet the pope and then getting a lecture about compassion from the vicepope when he blows you off seems like the last step before you get excommunicated

We still aren’t taking the effect of phones and social media seriously.

We should be focusing on it the way we focused on cigarettes in the 80s or lead in gasoline before that.

Yes allowing Fox to dominate was not a good idea. 1996 Telecommunications Act right up there with Citizens United.

There are just a lot of Fascists in the United States.

You are most welcome

I suppose but I also think power drives men, particularly, a bit insane. When everyone around you is dependent on your largesse, you start thinking of people as disposable zilches. Your addictive and destructive tendencies get amplified.

Well what if there isnt a return to “normal” (which wasn’t working anyway) but this is an opportunity to reboot government in a far more democratic and dare I say it socialist way? Reading Audrey Tang Plurality at the moment.

I agree with Richard Wolff that the Tesla luxury car for self conscious wealthy progressives was always a bad idea as we needed to focus on affordable public transport instead, but collapsing the US industry really adds insult to injury

Someone like Bezos should be smart enough to know that complicity with a fascist regime ends in tragedy and torment even for wealthy industrialists. But I guess history doesn’t repeat but it rhymes as they say.

They say absolute power corrupts absolutely: do you think Musk / Trump have been driven insane by their power? It seems like that to me. Obviously Musk had this stuff in his background but to openly embrace Naziism is just so repugnant and the ultimate troll move. Seems not sane.

More Qs for you if you want them! What are you feeling about Substack? It has changed my life but l also feel this narrow casting or disintermediation is part of the problem… how to build a movement when everyone is so silo’d? The incentives work against cooperation.

I couldn’t agree more and I value your contribution highly. What do you think of the possible value of a national strike or attempt at an economic shutdown? Does that also just play into their hands?

I’ve been overwhelmingly fixated on the nightmare we are in, realizing it may be more important to refocus on alternatives. Have you looked at Audrey Tang’s Plurality?
