...maybe it should be said more like "people tend to become set in their beliefs while society progresses around them", which (to me) makes more sense when you realize that the (maybe) first generation that the original idea has stopped being true (milennials) has remained mostly progressive...
I've been thinking about the whole "people tend to get more conservative as they grow older" and how that has seemed true (for the most part) for several generations...however...over the same period that it's been true, society has tended to progress...
