“Constitutional Sheriffs” are conservative politically and believe that sheriffs are the only true law enforcement agencies because of some twist of language in the US Constitution. They aren’t. We have city police and state highway patrol or troopers that have jurisdiction in different places.
Sheriffs are county law enforcement, supposed to be nonpartisan, but often are not. They are also often elected, and can only be removed by voters, so often if they suck you are just waiting it out until the next election.
This should be at least as big a deal as the cover-up of the Epstein files
Pirce County, Washington's sheriff was a drunk and lied that a newspaper delivery man was threatening him, resulting in a huge response from law enforcement that could have killed the man. Our new sheriff is mad state law says local law enforcement can't help I.C.E. and God chose him as sheriff.

Before the cops in LA started escalating things for no reason it was funny how my main takeaway was how much people were looking out for each other in really helpful ways. I’ve never seen so many people with carts giving away free water, sunscreen, snacks, and masks to total strangers.
