Yes and with 30 days left these perfectly healthy birds would have been officially cleared. CFIA did not allow any further testing to prove infection and proceeded with a barbaric ww2 level firing squad with "marksmen" that used 900 rounds to kill perfectly healthy birds in full vision of eachother.
Yes and reform needed so 35 year old perfectly healthy birds 30 days from being cleared arenβt put under a firing squad again.
These aren't fringe activists as the ongoing situation continues to affect all farmers.
35 year old birds aren't food, unless the plan is to slow cook a stew for around 3 weeks.
They were 35 year old birds, and the owners were not allowed to test to confirm infection without facing a 200k fine. 11 months in and 30 days from being cleared by law. It's not a left or right issue. It's a government overreach issue.
What's ridiculous is going through with a cull 11 months later with 30 days left before being cleared.
Except none of the birds culled were allowed to be tested further. Without confirmation 300 Perfectly healthy birds executed in the name of following procedure with 30 days or so left until being cleared.

Shame on this hour Has 22 minutes for making light of the impending execution of hundreds of healthy animals. What an awful choice.
Love it! π
No nutritional value? Coffee has all the group.
Thankful today for many things, and of course, coffee.
Reminds me of a Tom Petty song.
It was not handled effectively by CFIA from the outset. There needs to be catch safes for perfectly healthy animals when the job is not done properly and reform to reduce senseless killing after the fact.
Thank-you for sharing your abundance of dross.
Clearly itβs not about the flu or the science. Killing perfectly healthy birds 10 months past the initial date of potential infection (potential as they wonβt allow testing) is fine to the CFIA as long as itβs done in the name of procedure. One size does not fit all and reform is absolutely needed.
Also not mentioned the ostrich that was left to suffer and die in agony from being run into a fence by a govt. drone resulting in a lethal leg break. Reform to govt. practices is needed.
Your article also failed to mention the point that no further testing by CFIA or a Private Company has been allowed to prove the health of the remaining ostriches without being fined 200k each test. Reform is needed.
The issue is about Government overreach and perfectly healthy birds set to be culled without further testing allowed to prove otherwise. The Ostriches have been perfectly healthy for 10 months.
Good it is, drink you must.
