It is useful for precisely that. The issue is that nothing Silicon Valley produces can simply be a moderately useful product any more - instead it must be the future of humanity. They've become totally entrenched in a parallel reality and don't know how real people use tech.

"In the place of problem-solving technology, companies have jumped on successive bandwagons like NFTs, the metaverse, and large language models. What these all have in common is that they are not built to really solve a market problem. They are built to make VCs and companies rich"

Why do all modern depictions of Van Gogh make him look like a 2012 London hipster

UK’s Covid vaccine programme must rebuild trust before next pandemic strikes, inquiry warns Heather Hallett hails vaccine scheme but criticises rule that only those meeting 60% disabled threshold can get payouts

Gloomy headline here obscures a genuinely heartening stat: the latest enquiry found that almost 500,000 lives were saved in the UK, by vaccines developed here within a year of the start of the pandemic. 90% uptake. A tremendous success amidst the clusterfuck that was the UK's response to the crisis

Pragmata review – soulful sad dad saga in stunning outer space Engineer Hugh is sent from Earth to investigate a malfunctioning research station and meets a young android who helps him fend off murderous mechs

www.theguardian.com/games/2026/a...

I had an absolute blast with Pragmata, my favourite game of 2026 so far.

Despite its sparkling near-future setting, Pragmata succeeds because it feels like a throwback to gaming’s recent past. It’s a beautifully-made, heartfelt single player adventure

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, you are the only person who's reacted this way to this article and I was just asking why. It's never my intention to make people mad 🤷

Are you saying I've got the definition of an "unc game" wrong (entirely possible, I'm a 38-year-old mother of two and internet etymology is nuanced), or that I'm using it disparagingly? Because if it's the latter, then I think it's a misunderstanding

Jesus I don't think we HAVE six figure journalism jobs in this country

I had to find a job that let me work 3 days a week when my children were very young. Lemme tell ya: those jobs basically don't exist and I got extremely lucky

A lot of brilliant women from games journalism have gone into other fields and successfully continued their careers - the same is true for game development ofc. But it sucks that it's so hard for women to have a long career in games specifically, like, what if we want to just keep doing this

Nintendo's next big sequel gives you permission to get intricately stupid Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream begs you to wield the Miis in the dumbest ways possible

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream brought me back to the golden age of dumb tech. Where computer programs were a proving ground that challenged you to outsmart a machine. It’s a joyous shitpost factory where every ridiculous screenshot feels like a victory. My review. www.polygon.com/tomodachi-li...

Today, the NUJ and its UK Anti-SLAPP Coalition partners are bringing attention to SLAPPs. These are abusive legal threats & lawsuits filed to silence critical speech, which can target journalists, whistleblowers, campaigners, academics, and more. #StopSLAPPs

I think partly because Wilds doesn't totally rely on long-tail revenue, it's still a full price game whether or not people are still playing it 6 months later

Why I’m embracing the latest uncool thing in gaming ‘Unc’ is meant to disparage older players who favour slow-paced shooters and epic narrative games, but the industry should make games for all generations

Or, as I wasn't allowed to headline it: long live the unc game
