There have been quite a few of those by now...and the YouTube channel is getting close to 1000 subscribers, which is nice!
We will be around this Friday with another seminar

PS: Earrings from the Sunday market in Praca da Republica, Belem, PA, Brazil. This is a way to support Indigenous artisans.
I tend to wear Native American or African jewellery & my natural hair when running the #AttoFridays seminar series. Without making a fuss about it, this is a way to influence what is understood as "professional" or not. Here is a sneak peek from behind the scenes.

Kuddos to the group project students I worked with this spring. They produced excellent work on chaotic dynamics within ca 2 months. Here are they presenting their poster!
This has been a busy spring & there is more on the way!
3)This is the 1st from the APIQuL (Attosecond Photoelectron Imaging with Quantum Light) collaboration - with Tom Rook, Pahul Singh & Javier Rivera-Dean -, in which we show BSV light statistics can be used to enhance asymmetry in photoelectron momentum distributions - a lot!

2) Here we looked at a bottleneck in above-threshold ionization: how to solve saddle-point equations for fields of arbitrary shapes. We used neural networks for that & temporal windows. This is the 1st paper by Jiakang Chen (new PhD student), with Sufia Hashim as well:

Here r a few preprints/papers from 2026: 🧵
1) We (Sufia Hashim and I) assess two-electron quantum interference with more than one excitation channel. B/c the number of processes was too large for analytical conditions, we used statistical measures to compare images

It is of course unconscious and very different from "oops, it slipped", but would the word occur to a Black person as an intrusive thought?
Fair point. I am trying to understand the issue, which honestly I don't. I still wonder what brings the intrusive thought there and why he and the public were not protected.
I am no expert on this condition, but my question is exactly yours: what brought this intrusive thought there? How someone swears & the words they use tell a lot about their minds.

The fight continues, but it is important to celebrate our victories.

We are looking forward to this #AttoFridays season

Bringing all online was an insane amount of work for uni staff.
#SaveTheTapajosRiver
This destruction has been like this forever. #Amazonia is viewed as a colony to be plundered, also by many Brazilians. I was happy that the COP30 was in Belem, but I couldn't shake the feeling that our voices are never heard. What a farce!
#SaveTheTapajósRiver #RevogaDecreto12600
The Tapajós River is not just water, it is memory, food, culture, and life. Sending so much love with the Indigenous people of the Baixo Tapajós who are currently fighting against dredging and all projects that threaten their future.
Bom dia 👇

I have really enjoyed this outreach event. It was great to be a speaker in the Physics Undergraduate Seminar at UCL, and talk to so many enthusiastic students with great (and unusual) questions. Hopefully I could be of help!

Here are a few pictures from Goa, India, to clean up the timeline. We all need that from time to time 😊
Had a great time at the 2025 IAMNOP in Delhi (plenary talk & session chair). It was great to see the pictures and meet the vibrant Indian Physics community. And yes, I look more and more like my paternal grandmother, lol.

When you are coming back from paradise and reality smacks you in the face. On Saturday, while waiting for my connection to Delhi. As a South American, this is particularly triggering. For more info see, e.g., en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...

2025 was about starting a new research area, renewal in many ways, and reconnecting with my Amazonian roots. It brought success, recognition, help from unexpected places, nasty surprises from collaborators and the necessity to realign myself once more. Happy New Year everyone, despite everything!
Beautiful place. Where is it? Happy New Year!

I wish all of you strangers a great holiday season with a festive enough picture. I will go offline soon, but not before leaving my best wishes. May 2026 be less weird than 2025, and treat everyone with more kindness. Take care!
