Anyone else getting a 'Goosebumps logo' vibe from todays Google doodle?
This thread is amazing, full of creative humans helping someone be creative by offering dozens of beautiful, practical variants on "you've got this! Let yourself mess around & fail! Do something else! It's all good."
A large white waterfowl with orange feet stands in front of a door. On the door is a cardboard sign secured with tape that reads, "DO NOT LET THE DUCK IN." Adding insult to injury, I think the duck might be a goose.
Whatever you do,
A reminder for Edinburgh-based folks, I'll be doing a short talk about Watership Down + introducing a screening at this fiendish film festival a week today!
BBC Radio 2's sound of the 70s is helping to put me in the mood.
No Bargain
“There is not a day or night but a doe offers her life for her kittens, or some honest captain of Owsla his life for his Chief Rabbit’s. Sometimes it is taken, sometimes it is not. But there is no bargain, for here, what is, is what must be.”

Today at Pets at Home I had to flag down a store employee to let them know about a puddle of wee (not mine) on the floor, and he looked like I'd utterly ruined his day. I can't even tell you how defeated he looked.

Great article about how the Alamo Drafthouse has forgotten the face of its father. I was already soured on the place for reasons (mostly) unrelated to the in-theater experience, but if the in-theater experience is bad, too, then what the H are we even doing here? What a pathetic decline.

I once heard an interview with Vicky Krieps where she said she loves wrinkles because they're 'evidence of living' or something like that. As a woman I think my relationship with aging will always be a bit ambivalent, but hearing it framed so positively like that felt really transformative.

'his position appears to be that if a philosopher has been publicly and harshly critical of a view defended by other philosophers, they should be deprived of the opportunity to participate in influential professional assessments' - wouldn't be many REF panel candidates left in this case!
I think a 20 minute session of doing an expressionist painting of Bert was the break down I needed to have today.

okay finally there is good news (please don't let this be an early April Fools joke)
This BETTER include the UK
As a Film scholar it's especially annoying when scientists use the titles of popular movies or famous quotes as the fun, pre-colon bit, it makes literature searching so annoying for those of us who actually need to research those movies.
