Slightly more than that, I started playing basically as soon as they removed the time limit on the free trial, but this character and paying for the game obviously came later

They've set themselves up for failure on the filler as well imo, there were more FATEs pre-ShB, ShB cut down on them saying they'd keep the meaningful ones while introducing bicolor gemstones, flash forward to DT and most of them are pure filler again, with most zones lacking a proprer FATE chain

For the most part CE does its storytelling through environmental means, which are more subtle than the ways the game usually does it. But as of 7.41 they added some bits where certain NPCs will more-directly point out some stuff—so maybe they realized the environmental storytelling wasn’t working?

Not a bad thing to point out at all! I do appreciate the worldbuilding that unique maps offer, but as a result it feels too self-contained and unlikely to get a payoff. I do hope they make it pay off in the future by building on the formula, because it's a nice way to have other locales to look at

I like the 6.x patches a lot more than most it feels, and feel bad for how dirty they were done even if they blatantly ripped off IV at parts, but deep down I still know Zero only exists because they couldn't use Cyella...

Not that Bozja did a great job at following up on Return to Ivalice despite requiring it, but we have the Unending Codex now. If you're going to give a recap so thorough you could skip to the middle of a storyline with no problem, why not try it at least once?

We used to get trial storylines, now the MSQ's the one making you fight picture perfect replicas of previous bosses. Occult Crescent's only twist was a FFV reference. Cosmic Exploration barely even tries to have a story. No equivalent to Postmoogle, Scholasticate, ShB Master Role/Void or Tataru qsts

They really need to find a solution to side story jail that isn't Endwalker's, not making the side stories anymore. XIV's advantage was always how expansive its storytelling was, but now we get less variety in stories, the remaining ones being unimportant, and with longer waits between

I know why Zero exists as a character, even when the void crew is right there and their quests covered half the ground necessary for a void excursion that 6.1 did. However, I think Zero and Cyella together in the same frame would cure me.
