His daughter, Amy Kurzweil, wrote a fascinating graphic memoir about this desire - highly recommend it.

Nope, not yet - I suspect we will have it by the end of the day, though.

Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

I adore Cyndi Lauper.

As a wee kiddo, I wore out a VHS of *Cyndi Lauper: Live in Paris,* watching it over and over again.

As an adult, I dyed my hair in increasingly bright colors in direct homage to her, and I can still do excellent renditions of "Time After Time" and -yep- "She Bop," lol.

A fuzzy black senior chow mix struts on Rehoboth Beach along the water. It's a gray, foggy day, but he is so happy to be out.

Closeup of a fuzzy senior chow mix leaning his chin on his person's hand. He has sand on his muzzle, and you can see flecks of white in his black fur.

A tall white man walks a fuzzy black senior chow mix back from the water. The dog is frisking back to his other person, who probably has treats.

Since Marty was diagnosed with congestive heart failure & dementia last month, we've been making sure he gets lots of adventures. Today he visited Rehoboth Beach - he loves it here, & dogs are allowed until May 1. It's foggy & chilly, but he's built for this. Me? I brought a blanket ❤️

This PA town is halfway between Philly and Pittsburgh, has a mayor named ‘Hockey,’ and a Flyers/Penguins divide Together, Chambersburg’s citizens celebrate their community. That is, until the Eagles play the Steelers. Or the Phillies play the Pirates. Or the Flyers play the Penguins.

Most of the time, Chambersburg, Pa. is relatively quiet.

Except for when the Eagles play the Steelers. Or the Phillies play the Pirates.

Or the Flyers play the Penguins.

The town is almost exactly in between Pittsburgh and Philly.

That sound you hear are historians of science, gender, STS etc collectively banging their heads against the nearest hard surface until sweet sweet oblivion

Right? He is such a thoughtful interviewee, so that meant a lot. I am also grateful my mentor shared that detail with me at the time - it was great mentoring, too! I might not be a journalist anymore, but that experience is always in the back of my mind when I interview people for my research.

One of my proudest moments as a wee journalism student was assisting a feature writer on an interview with Mandy Patinkin. He used a few of my questions, and Patinkin complimented the thoughtfulness of one of them. It’s been decades, & I still remember the joy of that moment.

One thing this administration has done very effectively is rid me of any vestige of imposter syndrome because imagine being as arrogant as this dipshit in a suit

My colleagues have been talking about how much they love the AI "beautify this slide" function on Google slides. Well today we got an email telling us to stop using it because it changes the slide into an image that can't be read by screen readers, and is therefore obviously an accessibility problem

Exactly - it lets me help so many people I care deeply about - friends, family members, & the kiddos themselves. My own aunts were deeply important to me when I was a kid (and now!), so I am grateful to get to pay that forward.

For the record, parenting is an incredible challenge - part of the reason I don't have kids is because I recognize and respect what it takes to raise a kiddo. (I am a happy auntie to a lot of wonderful kiddos, which is exactly the right role for me.)

I mean, he wouldn't know how to raise his kid without the help of ChatGPT, so uhhhhh.....there might be a better chance than this person thinks.

Personally I think when a world leader announces “Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern to watch the world end” like it’s the fucking season premiere of Roseanne we should have a different leader the next day.

Is it the new recipe for the "peanut butter creme" that doesn't seem to actually have any peanut butter?

"What you feel in your heart towards the series is almost entirely irrelevant. What matters is what you do, because J. K. Rowling is out there doing a lot of things...Nothing is adequate to the situation except the truth. There is no way to watch the new Harry Potter show subversively"

Next time I am down your way, let's chat about this! I am rotating into department chair at the end of the semester, and this is something we struggle with, too. (Or let's plan to meet up after the semester is over - we aren't far from each other!)
