It's not a true WatchDaToast™ prototype level if it isn't covered in one single grass texture and features german text everywhere reminding me where to put certain stuff later

Rooms are being connected! After a few weeks of graphics and animation, i'm finally putting the actual game together ^^

Somebody once recommended that I should use AI for animation to make "faster progress", arguing that it's "just a tool", like anything else in a painting program.
Personally, I'd rather take years to finish my animations than rush the process and become a bad animator.

Kao The Kangaroo gives me life
Putting grumpy faces on all my new placeholder enemy meshes so that everyone who playtests will know these fellas mean TROUBLE >8(
While I think that keeping the retro mechanics like a 9 verb interface is fine (because in the end, the kind of experience you craft with it counts), what annoys me the most are the kind of games that CONSTANTLY need to reference older adventure titles through visual gags or dialogue in every scene

Hey its been a hot minute! dw I'm still around I just took a bit of a break from these places but I didn't stop doing these!

Fanart of Finn, From Beyond the edge of Owlsgard, a very touching and a awesome game!
Thank you! Lighting can make even those early placeholder levels look decent so far
Felt inspired to add some fun whirlwinds.
Hold jump to gain upwards momentum, but don't drop too far down into the fan.
I'm enjoying my time with OG Resident Evil 3, even though Nemesis is REALLY pissing me off.
Still felt like sketching him inbetween sessions.
LRT + regarding using AI for placeholders in #gamedev
idk why would u use an unethical algo (which also burns our planet down) and rely on its biased (and thus limited) outcome...
When u could just make ur placeholder with just a mouse and old ms paint like everyone else have been doing instead?
So far I made the conclusion that level design is something you can barely plan in advance. While there is some theory to it, you still need to build and prototype insanely large quantities of stuff until you can play and really "feel" if it's good or if it's trash.
I'm currently in the clock tower in RE3 and so far this game felt a lot more punishing than 2. I ran out of ink ribbons a few times and the randomly spawned enemies in the streets made for some unexpected and tense moments. There's definitely a lot more planning ahead needed in this entry.
Playing the OG Resident Evil trilogy for the first time. Oh boy, have I slept on it until now. This absolutely surreal mix of mystery, 90s cheese and unintentionally hilarious moments is extremely addicting - and also quite atmospheric despite all the cheese.
Reposting this ridiculous head because, concerning my current prototype, it's still the most polished Blender thing can dare to show yet lol
This one's actually from a ditched level I did earlier this year. Back then I made most geometry in GZDoom Builder and imported it into Blender. I fully switched to Blender by now and I wish I would have done it earlier. The exported topology of GZDoom Builder was a nightmare

Finally some appreciation for TONIC TROUBLE!!!!
Thank you!
Developing my next project with a "gameplay first" mentality. No fleshed out story or characters, just pure focus on gameplay flow and controls for an extended period of time.
I have absolutely no idea if it will work out though, so please wish me luck lol
Still really happy about how these textures turned out so far
When I made this asset, I had this early narrative with Gwen being the main character, who only met Finn in a later chapter. The machine invasion was already part of the story, however the antagonist was an evil goat wizard who planned to control the machines with magic for his own evil purposes.
Looking through old Owlsgard assets and realizing I still really like some of it. This one's from 2017, back when I still had a different story in mind and wanted do the entire game in only 16 colors and in a more simplified art style.
I've been getting into 3D game development a while ago. I now have another account here for that, so if you're interested in seeing some really early experiments and prototypes, feel free to drop by!

Unpopular Opinion Time
I always enjoyed having Cedric as a sidekick in King's Quest 5. He's memorable and adds just the right amount of charme/cheesyness to the whole game and its journey.
I never played KQ5 with voice acting though lol
Images you can feel
And often, that can lead to disappointment. The good thing is that the viewer/reader etc won't know your original vision that you may compare it to.
