Anything MORE than that is tough for very different reasons, mainly IMHO because team tends 2 gravitate 2wards larger average investments (hard to make > time in ur day). & historically that pigeon holes u in a very specific set of companies which correlate w/ public market bubbles (IPOs)…

Depending on strategy, anything b/w 300-750m is ok, depending on:
how often u want to fundraise;
how many companies (and therefore senior partners) u have / fund;
how much incubation vs series A/B u do.
Anything less is very tough (subscale, can’t pay talent to join, can’t follow ur investments).

Ah, yes: the dirty little secret of our industry… humans are an insanely complex and non-deterministic set of overlapping and pleiotropic molecular interactions…

Not to sound like a colossal pedant, but I’d like to note we barely started Dec and there is a bit of a seasonal pattern to M&A being back-loaded.
So, don’t bet money on it, but my guess is that 2024 will end up between 37 (bare minimum, just adding the one month missing) and 40+.
