Dear Senator Warner, The Blue Ridge Young Democrats want to express our severe disappointment in your vote in favor of the Laken Riley Act. Your vote has not only betrayed the values of our party, but put thousands of Virginia Residents at risk. This bill, named after a woman whose death has been grotesquely manipulated and misused by the Republican Party, strips the constitutionally protected right of due process away from tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants and puts legal immigrants and children of undocumented immigrants in imminent danger. Your support of this bill has also left DACA kids out to dry. No protections or exemptions were given for this group of Americans the Democratic Party has fought to protect for nearly two decades. All 15,400 DACA eligible Virginians, who are Americans in everything except on government paper, are now in greater danger of being sent to a country they have no connection to. This vote shows a shocking lack of thought and a disconnect from the wishes of Virginia voters. This bill and its consequences were soundly rejected by voters last year when they voted for Vice President Harris and Senator Kaine. We, the membership of the Blue Ridge Young Democrats, representing the central Shenandoah Valley, demand an explanation of your vote and a public apology for the innocent Virginians your carelessness has put at risk of deportation or harassment from ICE.
